5. Four
Let's see, there's me, Matcom, Catwoman and Nothingshocksmeanymore. Everyone else are just personae that we adopt to argue with each other. Although, now that I think about it, I may be just one of Catwoman's aliases. I'm all confused.

What was the question again?

18. Will Pitt is a computer program
Something concocted by Matcom whilst summer interning for Dadcom. It escaped from the mainframe, no one knows how, and began writing scurrilous (to its inventors' minds) columns exposing government perfidy. They've been trying to wrangle it back into the fold ever since, but the Will Pitt program has shown surprising resiliency.

10. Answer from Skinner
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=120&topic_id=17761

The number of registered users doesn't accurately reflect the number of people who visit the website. Lurkers far outnumber registered members.

Our message board software tracks the IP addresses of registered members. According to our software, 4,700 different registered member IP addresses are logged by our message board on the average day. Unfortunately, our software doesn't track the number of guest IP addresses visiting the message board. It's supposed to, but it doesn't work and we haven't fixed the problem yet.

We do have a relatively primative statistics package on our web server which monitors traffic to our website. According to that software, we get around 127,000 unique IP addresses visiting our website in a week. Of course, many of those IP addresses are from people who visit every day and have a different IP address every day. But it also includes people who have the same IP address every time they visit. We don't know how many unique IP addresses we get in the average day. I think we can get a safe low-ball estimate of unique visitors per day by simply dividing by seven, which gives us 18,000. But my guess is that the real number is actually higher than that, because (as I said above) many people are visiting multiple times per week with the same IP address every time.

15. Correct. Here is the quote

We don't have a precise picture of how many people visit DU. But here are a few interesting stats:

In any given day, we log 4,700 unique IP addresses from registered members. That number doesn't include guests who haven't registered or haven't logged in.

In the average day, we log at least 18,000 unique IP addresses on our website. That is a low-ball estimate based on our weekly number of unique IPs. The real number for each day is probably much higher than that. Maybe 30,000.

On an average weekday afternoon, we have well over 2,000 people logged on at any moment. If everyone on DU right now were to donate right now, we would more than double our donation goal for the entire week. We could end our fund drive right now.

19. We have a large graveyard
the number on the frontpage doesn't account for the tombstoned, or double id members. Someone did a detailed analysis of just how many actual members there are sometime ago, I didn't save it, maybe they'll do another one.
