When will the media stop trying to prop up Bush?
Well, I should say certain segments of the media.

This morning on Good Morning CNN! (or whatever it is called), the guy with glasses and dark hair was sitting around yucking it up with three guests for the 90 Second Pop segment. The first order of business was Fahrenheit 911. The CNN "anchor" said, "Mike Moore just won at Cannes with his documentary that showcases the ties between Bush and the Saudis....Oh, I should say alleged] ties. What is going on with this (with a sneer on his face)?"

Guest #1 laughingly: "Oh, the French are just trying to get back at the US. There is a great deal of anti US feeling in France and this is the one way they can get back at us."

CNN Anchor: "All of the reviewers have panned this film. It is full of outdated material that everybody has heard already. Why is it so popular among the Cannes crowd?"

Of course, these are paraphrased statements of what I recall. But, the interesting thing is that first the Anchor (Hemmer?) says very forcefully the word alleged making it clear to all who hear him that this movie is full of falsehoods. Then he says that it is all old information thereby contradicting his earlier statement.

Of course, the guest who indicated that it was all because the French were getting back at us failed to do his homework and find out that only 1 of the jury members was French. The president of the jury was an American. I guess facts would get in the way of his argument.

1. I don't watch CNN in AM too much, but...

I think that segment is supposed to be the hip, cool, gossipy, not-newsy segment. Thus it is more comedy and celebrity oriented than the rest of their broadcast (not by much).

The first time I saw it I was appalled how low CNN had sunk. First of all it is obvious they are desperate to draw the "younger" audience by being trite, faddish and celebrity-worshiping. Second, how dare they actually use the same people who are the "anchors" who report war stories and interview senators to engage in this shit. I guess Barbara Walters made the crossover years ago, but not at the same time.

I have little to no respect for any of the people reading the news today. They are mostly ignorant pretty faces or occasional curmudgeons or older men used for "balance" and "gravitas."

It is obvious to me that the people on TV make waaaaaay too much money and will never attack the hand that feeds them.

PS...Stuckinbush...Have they renamed that stupid Schrusy highway yet? Haven't been to the city in awhile, irks me everytime I drive past it!

edit: can't spell...need....coffee..

3. Not yet...
Nor have they renamed the Scrushy building at UAB or the Scrushy Vestavia Hills Public Library.

I think everyone is holding out for a conviction before they rename.

Of course, now that Scrushy has set himself up as this big misunderstood Godly man, I wouldn't bet on anyone changing the names of any Scrushy-stuff.

Sad, isn't it?

As for CNN...I agree completely that the people on television news today are simply "news readers".

2. Never
They still pimp Reagan, so much so that I've even seen DUers who claim Reagan wasn't so bad.

Reagan supported terrorists in Central AMerica who killed tens of thousands of people, including Americans. Wages fell under Reagan, the deficit ballooned. Reagan destroyed our educational system, our mental health care system, he created the homeless problem, he propped up a dead Soviet Union so he could have an enemy to rally against (like Bush with terrorism), he was caught in the most serious scandal in American presidential history, and his escape from that scandal was only gauranteed four years after he left office when HW Bush pardoned the men who could have testified against him. I've often wondered if Reagan were faking Alzheimers to skate on that charge, like the crazy don in NY.

And the media has people liking Reagan, naming airports and aircraft carrier after him.

Get ready, they will spin history for W long after he is gone, too.

4. Yes, if they can do that for Reagan, they can do it for anyone
They will continue to prop up Bush even long after he is gone. I'm sure Peggy Noonan and crowd will come out with book after book describing how it was great when we had character in the White House when W. was there.

The media will unquestioningly buy it all.

You think it's bad now, it's just going to get worse. The American people are in for a desperately stupid summer and fall.
