Another Bush supporter bites the dust
My partner and I attended a "Bear" event in Columbia, Missouri, yesterday, and we ran into a guy that we know socially through mutual friends, who had previously declared his unwavering support for the Republican Party and George Bush. In the past I have argued (politely) with him, asking how any gay person can support the anti-gay agenda of the Repugs, let alone the rest of the madness; he always came up with some rationalizations that struck me as half-hearted. Basically he's a 'heritage' Republican.

Well, yesterday we meet again at this gathering in Columbia and he tells me he's formally switched his party registration and is actually out raising money for the Democrats! After giving him a big hug I asked him what changed his mind, and he said it was the gay marriage amendment and the fact that half the people he knows have had their jobs shipped to India. We didn't get into the Iraq issue. Anyway, just thought you'd all like to hear that the drip drip drip continues!

4. Will it drip enough?
I am heartened by your post, but I'm worried. This is all too good to be true. Is the tide really turning or are we just hoping that it will so much we see everything through a magnified lens?

6. I think it's true
I know at least 20 Republicans who are voting for Kerry. The other day a guy at the gas station commented on my Anyone But Bush bumpersticker and said he's a Republican and he's actively working for the Kerry campaign. We started talking about books then and he said he's giving copies of Worse than Watergate to his Republican friends. He had about 30 copies of the book in has car. And if that's what I see in my tiny world, there must be a lot more of them out there.

8. Great--I hope so....
But I live in Alabama (must be bad Karma) and there are some truly weird people down here. I did see a Kerry bumper sticker, though, which may not sound like much but it made me feel GREAT!!! I hope she got home in one piece. Thanks for the uplift.

9. One can hope
I have heard so many stories of this type on DU, and finally had one of my own. Numerically, whether any of it makes a difference, who can say? But I think it's our duty to keep trying to persuade and inform people about the truth of the situation. It's just one of the many things we can all do.

7. Every gay convert we get counts
Though why we should have to fight for them amazes me. Its incredible how hard people will fight against their own self-interests and well-being.

10. By the way, I run this Yahoo Group
called Bears Who Hate Bush. It's really aimed at any and all gay men, and is technically an "adult" group since a lot of us don't mixing in a little porn with our politics. If anyone's interested, the url is:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bearswhohatebush/
