Networks to Skip Democratic Convention coverage? Corporate Media Strikes!
Sure seems like it from an article in the LA Times today. And here's a similar Boston news article:

Democrats' delay tactic may turn into big TV turnoff
By Elisabeth J. Beardsley
Saturday, May 22, 2004

Stalling his presidential nomination might end up costing Sen. John F. Kerry the one thing he really wants at a convention - live prime-time television.
At least one major television network yesterday frowned on the idea of Kerry delaying.
``If this comes to pass, we don't like hearing about one more piece of news that will not happen at a convention,'' said Mark Lukasiewicz, executive producer of NBC News' election coverage.

They will use the Kerry delay to cover LESS of the Democratic convention...mark my words.

f-ing CORPORATE MEDIA whores.

3. Still...Kerry's convention speech NEEDS to be covered
And my guess is they'll ONLY cover some of it and cover NONE of the other convention speeches.

That is a travesty and we need to start NOW on pressuring them to equally cover the conventions.

4. bush doesn't take craps. Rumsfeld reaches in and pulls them out.
Then he finds someone further down on the totem pole to smear them with.

Disgusting thought, isn't it?

5. They have the nerve to say this
``If this comes to pass, we don't like hearing about one more piece of news that will not happen at a convention,'' said Mark Lukasiewicz, executive producer of NBC News' election coverage.

While they follow "TerraBoy" all over the planet as he spouts the same words over and over.. just like Taco Bell screaming they have a new product and it's the SAME DAMN STUFF in yet another configuration..

THIS is BULLSHIT.. Take Back the Media will be going after this if so..

and I for one, think it's a bad idea for Kerry to hold off on his Nomination.. he needs to get it on and name someone to go out there and kick some ass at the SAME TIME he is campaigning,,

People ARE listening now Mr Kerry, Bring it on!

7. People only like Kerry when other people talk about him.
Once he starts talking he is a turnoff.

Believe me, for John Kerry less exposure is better.

9. I disagree...

Kerry is articulate and not at all boring. I was rather ambivalent about Kerry in fact until I heard him speak a few times.

I'm not sure where you get this idea.

18. One of the most articulate public speakers I've ever heard is a "turn-off"
Please feel free to elaborate on your reasons. Your basic lack of facts to back your statements has me wondering about the intent of your post.

Having suffered thru the "talking" of Dimson for the past 3+ years, I cannot fathom anyone who could make this point about Kerry.

8. Remember the 2000 Dem Convention, when ABC refused to air...
... the words/text on the bottom of the screen, that accompanied the film of Clinton walking the long hallway to the stage?

The text listed his eight years of accomplishments, and it was a pretty stunning stage entrance... his last hurrah as the party bid his presidency goodbye.

ABC aired the footage, but not the words. I wonder if they'll treat Bush in a similar way during their coverage of the 2004 Republican Convention? I can only imagine the list of "accomplishments" and "stunts" that Rove will come up with. I plan to stay on top of this.

10. They like to control the message
Heaven forbid the Democratic Party actually gets to state what it believes in without some media hack spinning his/her own interpretation of it.

13. Well, people can only stand so much crap...Most of the people
I KNOW who vote do not watch the news. I tell them watch BBC America.

And I think that the media will be shocked and amazed when we win. People know who does better for them when it comes down to it.

14. If Kerry accepts the nomination at the convention...he has to use the
funds he has on hand for the GE..He can't use any more new funding after accepting the nomination..that gives Bush 6 more weeks to pick pockets before he is bound by the same rules.

New rules for this election.

17. How did they cover the republican convention last time?
It would be nice to be able to refer to a direct comparison and demand fair coverage.

19. Bill Schneider made a similar remark
I just posted this elsewhere, but I heard him say (paraphrase): "If Kerry isn't nominated at that convention, who's going to cover it? Who's going to watch it?"

Is there supposed to be "reality show" suspense about who's going to get the nomination? I don't get it.
