797 troops dead already?!?!
I knew we were pushing close to 800, but there have been almost no fucking reports of casualties being reported by the media anymore!!! Jesus, 3 to go till we hit the 800 mark. At this rate we'll see 1000 by mid-summer.

1. At the beginning of this week the number was 787
There were only two articles I saw during the week that mentioned soldiers being killed, but it was not mentioned in the headline.

I wondered if they started to hide the deaths from the press. There has been some serious fighting going on this week and it was curious that only Iraqis were reported being killed.

5. and idiot jennings
on thursday said it was 572 or so. abc has usually been decent (brian ross's torture reports for example) but i don't get why they deflate it and qualify it like they do.

6. Lucky #1000 wins a free attendance by * at his/her funeral
The parents of our 1000th bush's war victim will receive a U.S. flag (made in China) with sterling silver stars on a velvet blue background, with hand-embroidered stripes of the finest silk, to be presented in a keepsake box made of mahogany from the rarest, oldest tree possible, adorned with genuine ivory inlay. </sarcasm>

7. They've stop announcing them...
.... when they occur. The media knows how much it hurts Bush - I guess they want to be "fair and balanced" to him.

8. There does seem to be less reporting on US casualties recently.
There does seem to be less reporting on US casualties recently.

Maybe the tv news producers figure that if they talk about the torture of Iraqi prisoners for a few minutes, that is enough was coverage for one broadcast, and they don't need to talk about US casualties that night.

12. They're doing it on purpose, and it's evil...
.... it's obviously a policy change. They want Bush to win, and they don't want to lay too much on him at once.

9. Palm Beach Post has been posting count
for the last few days. Appears in the midst of a related story in bold print. Was surprised by this starting about Wed. Hope it continues - something needs to wake this area up.

16. Something Terrible to think about
I have less than 600 posts at DU, yet I post and reply casually and often reflexively. I don't remember all my posts or even most of them.

But if every time I have ever hit the 'post message' button an American had blown apart I would still be far short of what Bush has accomplished.

17. Putting on the tinfoil
I don't believe the numbers, We were spanked hard last month in Fallujah, and there were only sporadic accounts of wounded in the fighting with Sadr's militia.
I believe there may be many, many more dead.
We don't know.
