Letter to Editor: Kerry Slap?

Letter to K.C. Star re Kerry throwing medals over WH fence. I thought I'd share it with DU since the Star probably won't print it. What do you think? Does this work? :

President Bush referred recently to “. . . the America that I know.” In response to “Offensive protest” by John H. Brown (5/21), I say Brown’s America is not the America I know.

In the America I was raised in, we were taught if the value of my behavior can’t stand on its own, without being propped up by others, it’s something I ought not to do. Brown says “(Kerry) slapped in the face everyone who has served in the military . . . . “ This means the military doesn’t know itself what right military behavior is. Is this our problem in Abu Ghraib? To need others to conform to any group’s perception of an action only reveals that group’s own weakness. So what is the greater insult: one that addresses wasting nearly 50,000 lives in Viet Nam? Or one that says our military can’t function as military on its own?
