A Proud Moment in India's History
Mrs. Gandhi, raised a Roman Catholic, is making way for a Sikh prime minister who will be sworn in by a Muslim president, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

That was a quote from NYT article that brought a great sense of pride and hope. It is possible to develop a tolerant society. But our leaders have to show the way.

4. India is one of American's greatest Allies
It's very important for America and India to forge strong ties. We have many things in common with them. Cooperating with India will pay off in the short term and the long term.

But just outsouring jobs to lower American wages isn't going to work. We need more person-to-person direct contact between regular Indians and regular Americans. Are the unions making connections overseas? The corporations are.

6. My money's on Pakistan
They're both equally nuts (well, Oprah's little special a few months back on what Indian men expect from and do to women opened my eyes), but whatcha gonna do?

Outsourcing jobs offshore will work. But only for corporations and for only a short period of time. When the implosion occurs, it's not going to be pretty.

7. I don't agree
especially now that the right wing nationalists are out of power in India. Both countries (like all countries) have their problems, but India is a secular democracy while Pakistan is a theocratic dictatorship.
