Bush*'s determination:FOOLISH consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds
Edited on Sun May-16-04 09:24 AM by LittleApple81
Sam Donaldson on Tweety (Sunday) after Tweety said that Bush is admired because he does not change course because of criticism. At least ONE intelligent person in that panel.

Edited to correct quote.

1. Georgie can't. Georgie has brain damage.
He'll grasp one idea and clutch it like a life preserver, information is so confusing and frightening and mentally drenching to the poor dear boy.

6. no problem
I do think it applies.

people praise * for being resolute and determined, but, he's really just stubborn and dense.

and he was determined to invade Iraq before 9/11. that event *should* have made him rethink the nation's priorities towards real homeland security and an intelligent, international approach to rooting out terrorist organization.

by remaining FOOLISHly consistent in his Iraq objective, we've all lost more than can be calculated.

politicians who pay attention to changing trends, etc. are GOING to change their positions.

I'd much prefer that.

9. It is scary to stay the same. The world does not so why should we?
I think the quote fits. This seems to be a big fault with the Right Wing. They see every thing in black and white and their is always a little black in the white and white in the black, I am sure Emerson has quote for that also. But I have not read him for years.

3. Emerson was a clairvoyant.
He perfectly described Bush without ever having known him.

7. And the next part of the quote applies to bush's* admirers...

"with consistancy a spirit has simply nothing to do, they may as well concern themselves with their shadow on the wall."

10. Exactly!!! It's a position that requires NO THOUGHT from Dubya
He's made up his mind, and he never goes back and visits the issue. As Paul O'Neill related over and over in his book, Bush would say, "I don't negotiate with myself". Which, I took him to mean, he never reconsiders his positions.

14. Like others, I have always loved this quote
I was thinking, you know what Bush's big problem is? He lacks discernment. It does no good to surround yourself with advisers and so-called competent people if you can't discern for yourself what is good and bad.

To me the argument that says, "so what if Bush doesn't know stuff, he has surrounded himself with experts" falls flat right there.
He doesn't read or study so he has no knowledge to back up his decisions. Because he lacks discernment he can be easily swayed by the cranks and nuts in his administration.

15. Little Napolean
Bush sees himself as a kind of Christian Napolean. That may be appropriate since Napolean abounded his doomed army to perish in the Middle East and returned to France without them.
