Castro leads mass protest
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/0514-08.htm

I really don't understand why the US still threatens Cuba. They really have no resources besides cheap labor that we could use. I don't consider myself 100% socialist or capitalist. I think both have their problems, but it seems to me the only reason that the US tries to overthrow Castro is because of the example he sets to other poor countries in Latin America.

As long as Castro is around he will inspire other Leftist revolutions as with the Columbian civil war, Chavez in Venezuela, Allende before..ect. I am really nervous to see what will happen with Cuba. The people there would not sit by and let Americans steam roll over them in an invasion..the people seem to generally support their government.

4. Then why don't WE speak out to stop the madness
The Dem party is just as bad as the repukes regarding the embargo and the sanctions on Cuba and Americans, as well as pandering to the right wingnut minority of Cuban "exiles" for campaign dollars.

2. Castros' speech was intelligent,
thought out, and logical. Why do we continue to punish this island nation? A while back, he said a 9th grader from the Cuban school system could debate * and win. I can understand why.

3. Neocons are very stubborn
they can't let go of old notions (Domino Theory) even when proven wrong time and time again.

5. we say we support freedom
but why not let people choose communism, capitalism, or a mixed economy? The revolutions in Cuba and Venezuela have had popular support. Why not let the people of a nation decide what system is best for them? If the USA thinks capitalism has more to offer Cuba maybe they should try proving it instead of making their lives a living hell. I think Cubans have a bad taste of capitalism after their Batista experience. Just as people in Eastern Europe frown on anything socialistic after their corrupt communist regimes fell.

6. Thank you. Its so damn obvious, isn't it?
Cuba's mixed economy has served them well - just look at Cuba's stats relating to their social infrastructure. Even with a strangling embargo and continued threats from the US, Cuba out performs the USA. Just imagine how well the Cuban economy would be doing if it could freely trade without the US's extraterritorial Helms-Burton law (the backbone of the US's embargo on Cuba).
