11. Andersonville: Infamous Confederate POW prison
Edited on Thu May-13-04 09:55 AM by JHB
Andersonville, or Camp Sumter as it was officially known, was one of the largest of many Confederate military prisons established during the Civil War. It was built early in 1864 after Confederate officials decided to move the large number of Federal prisoners kept in and around Richmond, Virginia, to a place of greater security and a more abundant food supply (that was the theory, anyway. Truth was, as the war wore on and and became short on everything, Union POWs were last in line for food, blankets, building materials, etc. --JHB). During the 14 months the prison existed, more than 45,000 Union soldiers were confined here. Of these, almost 13,000 died from disease, poor sanitation, malnutrition, overcrowding, or exposure to the elements.

5. CYA...Saving His Ass...
These troops aren't REALLY REALLY HAPPY to see these clowns following the month they've had to endure, and the prospects that the worst is still ahead. There's only so much anyone can take.

13. Too Bad This Isn't On C-Span
Yep...look and you'll see the OST are at quite a distance...there are others walking back and forth like they're busy just being busy.

Dare to bet this is being very, very carefully staged...just like the Chimpster Thanksgiving fake Turkey trot.

This is for the evening news clips...Rummy and all those Green Khaki shirts standing and applauding. Like they really, really like him.

6. He stopped reading the reports coming out of Iraq, too
His famous "workaholic" routine somehow prevented him from reading the Taguba report (written three or four months ago) or looking over any but a handful of the photographs of the Abu Ghraib handiwork before his appearance last Friday before the Senate committee.

What's he been so all-fired busy with? Taking a pottery class? Assembling family scrapbooks? Why can't he attend to the duties of his office enough to remember to bring such an elementary item as the chain of command chart for his testimony? When the Senators were asking the Ghoul who was in charge and how command flowed between the PFCs in the photographs and his desk, Rumsfeld couldn't answer because he'd "forgotten" to bring the chain of command chart.

If it was me sitting in the questioner's chair, I would have said that he'd better skedaddle back to his office and get it, because I was willing to wait there until he had an answer.

8. He's not making friends for America with his arrogant words
Edited on Thu May-13-04 09:56 AM by glarius
Saying the U.S.A is the last hope for the world is hardly going to be warmly received by other democracies in the world....like mine, Canada for instance, and all the other great democracies in the world....Especially considering what the U.S.A has gotten the world embroiled in in Iraq....It is also an insult to the main "coalition" partner, the British....Rumsfeld just can't help being an arrogant, preening little jerk, I guess...
edit...the "whooping it up" the soldiers are doing is demanded of them before the speaker begins his talk....Saw this on CBC where an officer comes out first and tells them to make lots of noise...You don't see that on TV....

10. Boy, that's comforting...and as a doctor....I've stopped reading
Medical journals..... (end sarcasm)

Hello !?!

Look, if Bush and the Gang were doctors, they would have
been sued up the wazoo and lost their medical licenses by now.

Here's the standard for politicians:

.

That's right, there is none.

12. These people don't read anything!!
Briefs, memos, reports, newspapers -- how many times have we seen the consequences of the fact that this adminstration doesn't read?!

It will be SO good to have a president who reads again.

14. Bush reads!
It's just that "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" doesn't seem to be very illuminating on the subject of an exit strategy. But don't worry, because Lil George will read it again next week to see if there are any insights he missed the first hundred times through.

15. The purpose of this is to show how HAPPY the troops are!
Edited on Thu May-13-04 09:59 AM by glarius
That's the main reason for Rummy being here and putting on this little show....IMO
Don't forget the troops are instructed before hand to make lots of noise!...I saw a report on CBC where they showed the officer come out before hand and tell them to shout it out....
