Would any newspaper print an Op-Ed piece of 1200 words?
Damn, this was twice as long as I wanted it to be...

Anyone? I wrote something that I feel is good but every paper I've seen accepts only 750 words or less.

4. My local birdcage liner sometimes publishes "Guest Editorials" when
an LTTE goes over the word limit.

7. Ask someone to edit it down
Most people think there's nothing that can be cut from their work without losing something essential. Truth is, most of what's written is twice as long as it needs to be.

I've been both an editor and a writer. If you want to send me a paragraph by pm, I'll give you one former editor's suggestions.

9. Agreed
Maybe you need it that length, maybe not. Why don't you post it and let us have a crack at editing it?

8. Stay within their limits...
... and cut something out. If what you wrote is really, really good, the newspaper may publish it but after THEIR editors do the cutting. Better YOU should do it!

Be happy. Most people have a hard time squeezing out half that many words on any topic.

10. Well here's the article if anyone cares:
http://www.counterbias.com/031.html

(no need to help me out by cutting it down--the one on the site is a longer version, but I've also concocted a 900-word one which I submitted but I'm sure will be ignored due its amateurishness and length)

..feel free to comment or offer advice if you are so inclined.
