Bush's advisers can see clearly:

1. Since he was an architect of the Iraq invasion strategy, it will be tantamount to an admission by Bush that the strategy was fucked from the beginning.

2. It will be seen as a sign of weakness, and like sharks sensing blood in the water, it will only encourage the regime's critics.

Rummy's resignation is wishful thinking, but I hope you're right.
