Swiss FM Tells US, British Envoys to Heed International Law
VOA News
09 May 2004, 16:49 UTC

The Swiss foreign minister has summoned the United States and British ambassadors to Switzerland to demand that the two countries respect international law in the treatment of Iraqi prisoners.
Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey took the unusual step of summoning the two ambassadors together to her office in Bern Friday to say she felt abhorrence and rage over disclosures of prisoner abuse.

She said she was acting because Switzerland had a special obligation as the home country of the Geneva Conventions to make sure those conventions are followed.

..snip...very short article

don't recall their ambassadors. This carnage and pillage of Iraq and the Iraqis is giving the U.S. the makings of a pariah state. To be honest, I wished the world would just come down hard and put pressure on this country. The UN should quit being timid. I don't know what would work though. You cannot put sanctions on this country. The world economy is so integrated with the U.S. that it would be pointless. Sure you cannot use force militarily. It would be suicide for the world. I just don't know what the world should do.

5. What did the world do when they realized Adolph Hitler was outta control?

I don't think a unity of nations will invade the US to stop Bush, BUT, I do believe a unity of Nations would be powerful in demanding an alternative to bush's methods.

Remember, for how very long Hitler's trains operated in secret before they were ever exposed to the World.
The horror was unbelievable and as the World came to see it was true, they responded in unity.

Perhaps more reasonable powers will take a stand against Bush, & in the name of humanity demand a change.
They HAVE to know that the American people have been rendered helpless against the secrecy and control of the Neocons and bush.

As an American citizen, I do appeal to more reasonable countries for a reasonable kind of assistance.

The treatment of the Iraqi people had been ignored by the bush regime, until some more haumane person took a stand and began showing the world what was going on in secrecy.

8. One could hope the world would unite, issue a statement to the US Congress
that the rest of civilization would no longer tolerate the current American leadership and Congress needs to address the issue pronto or there will be no trade allowed with the US and no imports to the US. That would make the corporations which have outsourced everything tug on the leashes of the congress critters. If all the other nations flat out embargoed us, a lot of corporate bosses would get a change made in US administration very fast.

10. The Swiss were making and selling a bunch of war stuff
to Hitler. For some strange reason the US couldn't bomb the Swiss factories that were supplying Hitler but they could shoot at our planes if they strayed in Swiss air space. And then for some reason they turned the Jews away at their border. Just saw this last night on the History Channel.

I guess they want to do things differently this time.

12. Was Prescott Bush financing the Swiss factories?
Industrialist and financier, Grampa Prescot had certain financial ties to the on-goings of Adolph's cause.

Where theirs a buck to be made, a Bush wil be nearby with the bankroll.
A family legacy of war profiteers.

...or maybe the Swiss have evolved to a more responsible and humane people.
Maybe there's hope for us through our next generation too.

11. hvocmom...That 's a good point..
possibly could work.
I think if a couple of countries speak out as did Switzerland..
publicly and with as much strength, more would be eager to join in.
bush won't listen to his own American citizens, but perhaps if enough foreign countries unified in the message of the Swiss, he may not have much chance of defense.

BUT it has to be public and continuous.

As with Hitler's secrecy, with the trains loaded with people heading for their horrible fate, held secret on Adolph's orders, these Iraqi people, who had NO PART in 9-11, WMD's nor ties to the taliban, also have been tortured under the secrecy of the Bush regime.

16. I think we may see more and more of this as time goes on...
...I am certain that it has happened privately more frequently than we'd like to believe, but I think this kind of public rebuke will yield significant results.

Who's next: Sweeden? Norway?

17. And sweeet little Colin is duly reporting that other nations are upset
and Bush is saying ,"Don't bother me. It's time for dinner."

We need PUBLIC PRONOUNCEMENTS FROM OTHER NATIONS.
Some are under the impression that we still have a free press, so that should take care of it.But we don't.:(

18. Oh, we do...but
if it doesn't bleed it doesn't lead.

Unfortunately, these comments are not nearly sensationalistic enough for our press to make an issue of (until somebody pieces it together for them)
