Is the candidate who says this a Democrat?
"I believe in the Constitution and the Bill of rights as our founding Fathers intended....The time is here to take care of our citizens and our nation. At the same time we must root out evil at home and abroad wherever it rears its ugly head. We must always be on the moral high road doing this."

A candidate in a local race has posted this on his website. I've heard him speak a couple of times and at least once he said something about the "original constitution".

In my experience, that expression has only been used by right-wing fanatics who favor a strict constructionist interpretation of the constitution, a "Christian" based view of the founding, or some sort of other US Taliban plan.

I plan to bring this up to him to flesh out exactly what he means by it. He's fairly young and may not really understand what he's saying when he uses that expression. But I want your feedback and experience before I do.

Is there such a fish as a Democrat who is a strict constructionist?

Have you ever encountered someone who spoke about the "original" constitution who wasn't a zealot-fundie-nut-job?

TIA

he played the "good vs. evil" card way to quick to be anything but a fundie.

2. I thought that too.
I wasn't sure if by "evil at home" he was talking about sleeper cells or me. LOL!

I'll investigate further.

4. Sounds like something
Brian Thomas would say . . . Isn't he from Ohio?

5. You're pretty smart!
I was referencing Brian, and yes, he's in Ohio. I just didn't want to "expose" him because I'm not sure he fully understands what he's actually saying. At least I hope not. I think maybe he's just trying to convey a sentiment of patriotism. But since you're familiar with him, maybe you know better than I.

I just wanted to make sure I'm not reacting unreasonably before I talk to him about it. And I don't want to start helping him if he's a nutball who thinks women shouldn't vote, slavery should be permitted and all the other rights we've fought for in the constitutional amendments should be discarded because they weren't what the "founders" said.

Do you know any other Democrats who employ that rhetoric and mean something different?

Thanks for your input, too. :)

6. Read it again
He's making a point about talking about evil in government. I think. Seriously, perhaps he's talking about Bush himself. Seems very vague. What are the rest of his views.
