What I don't understand...

is how can President Bush and Secretary Rumsfeld honestly expect Saddam Hussein to be tried and held responsible for the atrocities committed in his name when he was the leader of Iraq, but they themselves don't have to be held responsible in the same manner for the same type of atrocities?

1. Because we "won". Winners get to make the rules. nt

7. That's why I put it in quotes.

We won the "war" and are now getting our ass kicked during the "peace", just as many people (myself included) predicted. We get to decide what to do with Saddam because the rest of the world can't quite figure out how to tell us to knock it off-and have us listen.

We've been ignoring international law and doing whatever the administration wants for three years. Eventually, that is going to bite us in the butt in ways we can't even imagine yet.

Sad.

And by "we", I mean the US, since that is where I'm from.

8. So true...

seems we need to win the peace more than the war.

Didn't mean to offend with the "we" part,

2. Because Saddam was the source of all evil in Iraq.
In fact, Bush and Rummy are going to blame Saddam for the way we tortured the Iraqi prisoners. Clinton should probably get some blame too.

4. I think Saddam's trial...

is going to get quite interesting... Did you see the 60 Minutes interview of the guy who's going to defend Saddam?

Oh yes, this is going to be quite interesting,

6. Yeah...but the repukes can't let it happen until after the election.
It could make them look bad, especially after the last week or so.

10. Well it won't exactly be a walk in the park for Clinton either...

but Bush 41 and Reagan are gonna look even worse with the gasing of Kurds and the fact that they put Saddam in power and armed him etc etc... Not to mention the mass graves are partially the fault of Bush 41 for not backing up the revolt that he incited at the end of the Gulf War.

And I hope the fact that the sanctions did as much to help kill 500,000 Iraqis as Saddam did is brought out. Saddam was an evil evil man but he had a LOT of help from us,

11. great point
since we have been hearing all this stuff about how you cant blame the boss for what the janitor stoled.

But you can blame the boss if he made rules saying it was OK for the janitor to steal the money
