Bush Lies enshrined: Jim Hightower & the "Claims vs. Facts Database"
From Jim Hightower's ("Thieves In High Places") Weblog entry of 4/30/04 (http://hightower.fmp.com/weblog.php):

"The Center for American Progress today launched a comprehensive Claim vs. Fact database at http://daily.misleader.org/ctt.asp?u=1214992&l=31810 that documents statements from conservatives like President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Members of Congress and Fox News personalities, and compares those statements to the facts. Each fact is sourced, and in many cases includes a web link directly to that source.

The database has more than 400 entries so far, but THEY NEED YOUR HELP BUILDING IT. If you know of a lie, distortion or dishonest statement from a Bush Administration official or another conservative that isn't already in the database, please go to their submission page at:

http://daily.misleader.org/ctt.asp?u=1214992&l=31812

I had a problem with the URLs provided by Hightower but was able to connect with this one: http://www.americanprogress.org/site/apps/custom/cap/findorg.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=45294

You can pick a subject and speaker from a pull-down list, or submit your own < DOCUMENTED > lie. It ain't a chat room, folks, this is an attempt to hold Dubya's feet to the fire.

An example: if you select "Compassion" as the topic and "Bush" as the speaker, the database returns:

Topic: Compassion

Speaker: Bush, George - President

Date: 1/28/2003

Quote/Claim:
"Americans are doing the work of compassion every day -- visiting prisoners, providing shelter for battered women, bringing companionship to lonely seniors. These good works deserve our praise; they deserve our personal support; and when appropriate, they deserve the assistance of the federal government.”

Fact:
"The 2003 Bush Budget proposed cutting $88 million out of HHS Community Service programs – most of which is a $75 million cut (24%) cut to the Community Service Community Services Block Grant Program. Bush is also requesting a $90 million (20%) cut to AmeriCorps, which includes USA Freedom Corps, and an overall $39 million cut to the Corporation for National and Community Service." I urge all of you to bookmark this one.
