My friend and I went walking yesterday. It was a beautiful day in Vienna, Virginia. We were walking through a garden park taking in the beauty of the flowers as the cute little goslings followed their parents around the perimeter of the ponds.
We got to talking about news. First she starts to talk about this hostage who was released. I mentioned the defeat in Fellujah and I shared with her the fact that the media in the Arab world views this as a defeat of the U.S.
The words in the title came out of her mouth. I was really kind of shocked. I said to her, hey watch what you say. Then she proceeds to negate what she had just said by saying, "we Jews don't hate the Muslims," and "of course it's just a small minority who are against us,"
I said, "that's not the point. The point was what you said. It sure sounds like you have something against Muslims and I had to call you on it."
We didn't argue about this because I think she realized I had a point. She had taken at face value something she heard from her right-wing work place, filtered by what was discussed in her synagogue. And this is a very intelligent woman.
This is what people think out there.
