Did bush really say "major" combat operations or was it added later?
I seem to remember posts early on when it started being reported as "major" that quoted him as saying "combat operations".

1. according to the transcripts
http://home.earthlink.net/~platter/speeches/030501-bush-lincoln.html

It does seem to say 'major combat operations' but I recall a lot of talk about it being changed after flare-ups in fighting after that speech, and that he actually said 'combat operations' anyone else got anything?

2. I just went back in my bookmarks. Thought I had saved it because it was
important but went through a period of deleting things when I was disheartened by the three monkey attitude of the masses. I swear that it was changed.

I know the source sucks but it is the best I could do.

In the video Bush speaks "Major combat operations in Iraq are over". It is about 30 seconds into clip one.

4. I watched Chimpy's lips, and they were moving, when he said "MAJOR."
This excuses NOTHING of that ridiculous, premature speech, but if "major" was added in later, I'd love a link to it...

5. A year ago he said "major" - this week said "combat" - that is my
understanding - but I have no recording. The outrage was the media doing its usual rewrite to pretend Bush said what he was trying to say. Our "Special Olympics" President (a term I do not like because the Special Olympics kids deserve every break that they get) gets a pass on everything from our media.

:-)

8. Here's c-span video.
Also, sticking one's head up in Fallujah to shout "Major combat operations are over!" is not in today's advisory.

I really admire the c-span signature coverage technique of showing the full beginning and the full end. Those R media types are real sticklers. Shrub's walking the cleared flight deck to the podium must take 20-30 seconds, and is timed about perfectly to the full playing of Hail to the Chief, sine stinger. Like the "Peace Bridge" they had rebuilt to image spec. I almost want to admire it in a way, but it's, like, Leni Riefenstahl.

6. That Game Of Low Expectations
This regime never stops at spinning a good lie into a bigger lie.

Yep, I remember vividly not only did Bunnypants claim that MAJOR combat in Iraq was over, but that all the talking heads were cheering him as being the "great war leader". Anyone remember Tweety getting all hot and bothered by *'s flightsuit?

I also remember in the days before that PR stunt the talk of how "The pResident" would be declaring an end to "hostilities" aboard an American ship "returning from action"...(didn't say which action).

That goes to the current lie...that this was just for the crew of the Abraham Lincoln...that THEIR mission was accomplished. Anyone want to have some fun? Now the Lincoln was in the Pacific and it would have taken at least a good week or so to traverse the Pacific from the Persian Gulf, no? My question...was the Lincoln at all involved in the invasion. If not, we got another whopper to have fun with. Mission accomplished, my ass! Tell that to those who have their children sitting in harms way this evening.

7. "Major" combat operations was changed on their web page....
as I recollect. However, there was little doubt that the whole landing on the cruiser was built up as a victory celebration of sorts. The ship had slowed down or turned around from the shore so he could make his now infamous landing. It was time to celebrate! We had gone into Baghdad and toppled a statue. The impression was that there was a little cleaning up to do but that major operations were over. As we have seen in the bombing of Fallujah just this week, major combat operations were not over.

It seems Mr Bush was wishing it over and simply pronouncing it as over would complete his "mission". However, somebody in Iraq did not get his memo. They said quite the opposite with their roadside bombs, their suicide missions, their carbombs, their ambushes, their rocket and mortar attacks, their bombing of the UN building, etc. It was never over. Neither combat operations nor major combat operations. The war has only gotten worse. And, it will not be over on June 30th at midnight. It will not be over until we withdraw from that country. And I doubt that we have any plans to do that anytime soon.

10. He said "major combat operations".
I watched the speech the day he made it and I remember that part.
Are people trying to say he changed it? I guess I missed the previous posts.

I found the transcript on the White House website:
