We need to welcome Keith Olberman's Staff to DU!!
Earlier today there was a thread about the ABC affiliates that owned seven or so stations who refused to air the reading of the war dead on Nightline tomorrow night.

One intrepid DUer googled opensecrets.com and found that they were big repuke contributers.

Olberman brought it ALL up and said they were repuke contributers!!

woooohooooo!

:hi: Keith, et al

5. If in fact they did find it here and reported it, then it does validate
my impression that we ARE a form of media.

Either way I am glad they reported it.

6. I don't usually jump to conclusions, but this was
toooooo close to the DUer's post this morning and the research he did.

I mean, you could have lifted it almost word for word.

I'm thrilled to see that they are breaking loose, even a little from the junta.

16. Form of media?
Definetly. I'd even go so far as too say that DU is a form of Free Press, a right the constitution says congress shall pass no law abridging.

Those evil sons of bitches in the White House and their minions do something excreable. The brilliant people here at DU find out about it. Pass it along to the media: voila! Not a secret anymore!

So, so cool! :-)

Actually, thanks to the intrepid DU'er who discovered this!

right here at DU.

A news show like Olberman's would do well to check DU from time to time to get the real story.

17. Keith Rocks by breaking this story.
The Repukes pull shit like this all the time, I was talking to my CNN neighbor tonight and got some interesting opinions on how CNN execs. argue over what shade of red they ought to show for the masses. I asked "GOP red, and my neighbor agreed. I told her the truth tonight, how much I was tired of CNN lieing to me. (Lou Dobbs Excluded) and my neighbor totally agreed with me and told me it's all about mass market and public puppeteering for corpwhoretion. Real news doe's not sell. And when it's too damaging politically, It can hurt unless they spin it to appease the leadership party (who come down on them, such as the case with ABC).
Keith did a very brave thing tonight. They will hound him, death threat him, smash is car and home windows if givin a chance, and scare his love ones. That is what they do, that is what we are up against. Don't wimp out if you are targeted, fight back harder.

18. I think they had the figures wrong, though
If I heard Keith correctly, he said that totals of $16,000 and $100,000 were donated. Wasn't the list of donations way, way larger than that amount? I saw that just one person made a $25,000 donation to the RNC.

23. the totals are almost $250,000 to repubs
a token amount, about $5000 to dems. some pretty hefty donations, some of $25,000, and one of $80,000.

19. If the "outing" of these ABC Affiliates by DU & MSNBC's Olberman
cause george's ratings to drop a few more points, it will be an honorable day here on DU.
And a big fat "in your face' to Sinclair Broadcast Group et al.

Ironic that their repuke bias and censorship would cause their beloved god-george MORE negative press.
LOL Sweet!

22. Fascinating, isn't it?
The repigs just LOVE to paint Dems and other "libruls" as unpatriotic, un-American, treasonous, etc., and that we hate the troops and don't support them, blahblahblahblah.

Yet not only have most of them never bothered to spend one fucking day in a uniform (while trashing the records of those Dems who HAVE served), but they're doing everything they can to fuck over the troops and think nothing of sending them off to an illegal, unneccesary war under bullshit pretenses, then cutting their benefits and charging them for food during their recoveries!

And this is in addition to doing everything they can to make Americans forget about the troops and forget about those who are daily losing their lives for a blatant and deliberate lie, from refusing to allow photos and media coverage returning casualties to firing those who do take such pictures to this particular instance of refusing to air a reading of the names of those who've made the ultimate sacrifice for the Bushista's oilmen and imperialistic political ambitions. I AM SO FUCKING SICK OF THE REPIG HYPOCRISY IN THIS MATTER!

28. its pretty obvious from keith's show that they have been here a while
olbermann has made it past one year? those of us watching those early days would not have taken that bet.

one year, when his show was the only one around that was even hinting at the lies of the bush administration.

yes, as an other poster mentioned, olbermann's approach has been to become akin to a sly version of mediwhoresonline.com for the cable crowd.

his show supplies so much backstory to current topics, that the right wing spin looks ridiculous.

however, of all the things on his show, the best was the court room tape of the man accused of robbing a bank who indignantly insisted that he was no bank robber, but instead, and in front of a judge, proudly proclaimed that he was a drug dealer.

as bill o'reilly would have suggested to the guy..."SHUT UP, JUST SHUT UP!"

33. Keith & Pat Buchanan & Countdown transcripts
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 02:55 PM by scmirage
I think Keith likes Pat Buchanan because Pat -as has been discussed here before--has a good sense of humor about the whole political scene. And he will usually answer a question honestly. Yeah, yeah, I know he's a Republican right-winger and all of that--and I know that he often has some way-out ideas--but at least he's got some common sense--unlike Bush & Co. Buchanan also has been around a very long time and he knows a lot of the players in DC--if nothing else he usually provides a good history lesson.

And if you miss Keith's show--you can find Countdown transcripts for the last week up at countdown.msnbc.com--sometimes they also post video clips of past show segments too. Yeah--I'm a big fan of the show too!
