Dark Alliance - How the CIA Created the Crack Epidemic in the 1980's
Earlier one of our younger DU'ers asked why Reagan was so bad. God, If we just had more kids his age asking this question in our schools...but our schools are only telling the rosier aspects of this murderer's life.

So...for anyone who wonders why Reagan was bad...Here is the original article published in the SJ Mercury News:

America's 'crack' plague
has roots in Nicaragua war
Colombia-San Francisco Bay Area drug pipeline
helped finance CIA-backed Contras
Published: Aug. 18, 1996

BY GARY WEBB
Mercury News Staff Writer

FOR THE BETTER PART of a decade, a San Francisco Bay Area drug ring sold tons of cocaine to the Crips and Bloods street gangs of Los Angeles and funneled millions in drug profits to a Latin American guerrilla army run by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, a Mercury News investigation has found.

This drug network opened the first pipeline between Colombia's cocaine cartels and the black neighborhoods of Los Angeles, a city now known as the "crack'' capital of the world. The cocaine that flooded in helped spark a crack explosion in urban America … and provided the cash and connections needed for L.A.'s gangs to buy automatic weapons.

It is one of the most bizarre alliances in modern history: the union of a U.S.-backed army attempting to overthrow a revolutionary socialist government and the Uzi-toting "gangstas'' of Compton and South-Central Los Angeles.

The army's financiers -- who met with CIA agents both before and during the time they were selling the drugs in L.A. -- delivered cut-rate cocaine to the gangs through a young South-Central crack dealer named Ricky Donnell Ross.

2. How can people still hold Reagan in such high regard?
His crimes against humanity are legendary.

I almost hope there is a hell, because these people belong in the deepest, darkest, and meanest part of it.

5. I use to work at the High Risk Clinic at Jackson Mem in Miami
When I first started working there pot was the drug of choice in the ghettos.

Then Reagan began his "War on Drugs" and went after the big freighters, that would sit off the coast of Miami, unloading their goods onto smaller boats. They were easy targets and all of a sudden the pot supply dried up. However, a funny thing happened. At the same time cocaine which had been very expensive was suddenly everywhere. Supposedly, by turning it into crack a person could get high for relatively small amounts of money. From $100+ per gram for cocaine, now you could buy a rock of crack for about $10. Overnight things in the ghettos went from bad to worse. Ronnie and CO. were so proud about their success. They claimed they were winning the war on drugs, while they were destroying whole communities in the process.
