In a statement released by the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, which claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombings and claims to be the European military wing of al-Qaeda, the group's leader supported George Bush for president. The suprise announcement came coupled with an order by the group's leader for all al-Qaeda operatives in Europe to pause all terrorist operations. The reason for the ceasing of terrorist operations in Europe, according to the group, was to give Spain time to withdraw their troops from Iraq as Spain's newly elected socialist Prime Minister has promised to do. The terrorist group stated that it wished Bush to win because it was not possible to find a leader, "more foolish than you, who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

3. Prepare to
see this in Bush ads. It will be spun as "A vote for Kerry is a vote for the terrorists."

THe statement is not without irony. "...who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom." Duh, sounds just like the terrorists. NOt a lot of wisdom involved in flying planes into office buildings.

7. It's true.
In late March the same group that claimed responsibility for the Spain bombings sent its second statement via e-mail; "Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilization ... because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected."

In that same e-mail the group said it was good to keep Bush in office because he was awakening the Islamic world.

Basically, this terrorist group says it wants Bush to remain in office because the election of Kerry will bring the peaceful dissolution of the Islamic state.

9. Unfortunately BushCo
will use this to play on the fears of his foolish supporters.

I have no doubt that Kerry would have no problem going after terrorists and would probably do much better job at bringing an end to this mess.

snip> The statement tells American voters that Abu Hafs al-Masri supports the re-election campaign of U.S. President George W. Bush: "We are very keen that Bush does not lose the upcoming elections."

Addressing Bush, it says: "We know that a heavyweight operation would destroy your government, and this is what we don't want. We are not going to find a bigger idiot than you."

The statement said Abu Hafs al-Masri needs what it called Bush's "idiocy and religious fanaticism" because they would "wake up" the Islamic world.

Comparing Bush with his Democratic party challenger, John Kerry, the statement tells the president: "Actually, there is no difference between you and Kerry, but Kerry will kill our community, while it is unaware, because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish infidelity and present it to the Arab and Islamic community as civilization." <snip

12. Reuters Story - No Link
I can't find a link to the actual story. It has expired from all the main websites that carried it. Here's what little bit of it I could find, taken from the larger story about the group claiming credit for the Spanish bombings.

The question has always been and remains whether the letter is authentic, as in from an actual al Qaeda organization.

Excerpted from a story by Opheera McDoom

CAIRO (Reuters) - WE WANT BUSH TO WIN says Al-Queda Linked group, after claiming responsiblity for Spanish Bombing.

The statement said it supported President Bush (news - web sites) in his reelection campaign, and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry (news - web sites), as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you (Bush), who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom."

In comments addressed to Bush, the group said:

"Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilization."

"Because of this we desire you (Bush) to be elected."

The group said its cells were ready for another attack and time was running out for allies of the United States.

...

The group is named after Muhammed Atef, also known as Abu Hafs, a close bin Laden aide killed in the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan (news - web sites).
