hypothetical question: if * wins election but we retake the Senate...
If Bush gets a second term (note that I'm not using the term "re-elected") but we take back control of the Senate (which is very possible), how much would that mitigate the potential damage that BushCo would attempt to do? Would we be able to keep Repigula in check to some extent?

1. With legislation issues, yes. With Executive Regulation changes
it won't help at all because Bush will just keep doing it.

OTOH, the Senate could keep proposing legislation to roll back *'s executive regulation changes.

2. I wonder the same thing
Maybe if the Democrats can retake the Senate, then they can block most of Bush's agenda. Not sure how practical this is, though.

3. I want it all

Take back the SenateWin more congressional seats.
Kick them out of the WH for 8 years and counting.

4. I'm with you! I want the Senate and the WH and the House!
On the other hand, maybe this is a bad idea. The Chimp will be leaving a huge mess which will take years to clean up. The Democrats will get the blame.

If it weren't for the severe long-term damage Chimpy could do with another four years, I'd almost hope he did get a second term and have to deal with his own mess for a change.

6. Very little
The best we could hope for is a 2 vote majority in the Senate. That would mean the majority leader would have to keep just about everyone in line. Since that leader would be Tom Daschle, with all odds, I think we only need to look at his history to see that he's not the best at this. Please do not think I am bashing Daschle, but when we did control the Senate during 2002, look how often we got rolled.

Anyway, if this does happen, and I pray that it does not, then it will be up to us to keep the pressure on all the Dems in the senate to fight back.

8. He's a crappy senate party leader
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 05:47 PM by fujiyama
I want him to win reelection to the senate. I also understand that he has his own electoral demands, being that he's from a conservative state.

That doesn't mean I want him in any leadership role though. Whether the democrats win or lose control of the senate, Tom Daschle should not be chosen as either majority or minority leader. We should have someone with a safe seat, from a solid blue state, that isn't worried about losing his/her seat.

10. Two Words
Supreme Court. I don't care as much about the Senate because the damage will be forever with a Bush apointee.
