Pat Tillman was a friend of Mrs. Sandpiper
My wife used to work as a medical records manager for the Arizona Cardinals team physician and knew Pat Tillman. I was the one who broke the news to her and she's pretty grief stricken about it.

If anyone wishes to send their condolences, I'll make sure she reads this thread.

3. I'm very sorry for her, and for his family...
He did what he felt he needed to do by leaving a lucrative NFL career to volunteer...and it's really sad that he paid the ultimate price for that...:-(

Personally, though his death would have been equally tragic in either theatre, I derived some solace from the fact that he was killed in Afghanistan, fighting our TRUE enemies: the Taliban and Osama & Co.

B-)

4. It sounds like he was a great guy. Lots of folks feel such a loss.
I first heard about this on the radio this morning. There was an entire program discussing it. One caller thanked the host and made a disparaging remark about Fox's initial reporting. I think this hit Americans of all persuasions. There were so many positive comments about Pat,... His death seems to have struck a cord across the country.

My sympathies to the Tillman family, all the Arizona Cardinal family and everyone who knew Pat Tillman or his family.

A big hug to Mrs. Sandpiper.

I too thought at least he died in the true war for what happened to us on 9-11.

And I do admire him for walking the walk. He was a rare man who backed up what he said.

He's kind of a throwback to the athletes of the 40's and early 50's who left the ballfields and served when their country needed them.

So unlike those today who wave the flag, make big talk, and sacrifice nothing!

17. Very sad
about the loss. Tillman sounds like a very nice guy, someone who made the ultimate sacrifice giving up money and material goods because he believed something else was more important. The sacrifice Tillman made is very rare now-days and makes it all the more tragic. :grouphug:
