I think the US sort of "blew it" regarding the "hiding" of the return of US casualties.

Instead of the public getting "used to" ( I know, but it's the best words I could think of at the moment) a dozen here and there, now the public is faced with HUNDREDS of pictures.

Of course, the added imposition of a NEW ban ("prompting the Pentagon to order an information clampdown today.") only magnifies the appearance of the Pentagon's habit of wanting to "hide" things.

Pictures given to activist under freedom-of-information laws

DOVER, Del. (AP) - A website published dozens of photographs of war dead arriving at the largest U.S. military mortuary, prompting the Pentagon to order an information clampdown today.

The photographs were released last week to press freedom activist Russ Kick, who filed a Freedom of Information Act request to receive the images. U.S. air force officials initially denied the request but decided to release the photos after Kick appealed their decision.

After Kick posted more than 350 photographs (alternate site) on his website, the Defence Department barred the further release of the photographs to news outlets.

"They're not happy with the release of the photos," Dover Air Force base spokesman Col. Jon Anderson said.

The whole world is watching the USA's actions now

Freedom of the press? In the USA?

We don't think so.

1. DoD is going to rue the day they
imposed this ban to begin with... mark my words. It is making the hiding of casualties during the VIetnam War look like a ride in the park. Johnson and McNamara paid for it, Bush and Rumsfeld will pay ten fold for this (as well as his father, Bush 41 and Chenney)

3. She did it for the truth
My husband just retired, and trust me, having them applauded when they go, but hidden when they come inside a metal casket, strikes of dishonor to many military families.

Have I mentioned how much I hate these people today?

10. They claim that she violated the rule, and that they needed to
protect the soldiers' identities. Excuse me, no one can see any names on those coffins, just that they are American coffins. Our public needs to get a better understanding of the real cost of a war for lies.

4. Exactly, their attitude is going to make a MUCH bigger issue of this.
.
.
.

Check around other news sources, many of them are actually (like the Toronto Star) providing the LINK to the 361 pictures.

AND

If those pictures disappear of the net now,

MANY questions will be asked.

And,

I suspect that many like myself are saving the whole web pages of the 361 pictures.

And any foreign reports I can find.

I'm in the habit now of going to FOREIGN new sources to verify anything I hear out of the USA

I am fortunate in having Canadian television as opposed to the American stations.

Our CBC, CTV, and BBC stations are MUCH more reliable and unbiased than American stations.

Of course, we get away with slamming our Government, because in Canada, the Government is controlled by the people, NOT the other way around.

Well, yeah, we still have a ways to go, but we are nowhere NEAR as controlled as the American citizens are by their government/media.

That's my Canuk observations anyhoo - -

6. ALL 20 plus coffins over and over on the planes made to carry a lot
of dead. Did you see how that was set up? Go back and look at the set up. If I see it others will. It means a lot of poor dead men.
