A draconian way of getting people to drive hybirds
If you raise gas taxes it will piss people off and it will make for a nightmare at the pump. At the same time, abolish ANY tax on hybird cars and SUVs (when those come out). Could this strategy work, at least at the state level?

2. We could also nuke the middle east which
will fix the palestinian situation and end our dependence on middle eastern oil. This solution is about as effective as shooting people who complain about you blowing up people businesses and jobs

3. Yeah, but you got only a few...
...big explosions instead of lots of small ones. Plus no gun fire. What fun is that?

4. I prefer Virginia's solution.
Let them drive in the HOV lanes with only one person in the car. Honda's supply for several states around was being forwarded to the DC suburbs because that was just about the only place people would buy them... BUT there? They sold for well over sticker (probably lower now) and had months of backlog.

The HOV lanes are underutilized anyway... and the purpose was not so much to encourage commuting as reduce pollution and gasoline usage. A hybrid does both of those things in spades.

I got me to buy a new car and spend thousands more than a civic SHOULD cost and I was happy to do it even though I have ALWAYS purchased used cars. It cut 20 Min each way off my commute.

Of course... now that I live in NC it doesn't do me any good except that I only fill up every couple months.

6. Five mile commute plus 45-50 mpg
Plus drive the family van on the weekends to fit the kids.
You don't buy gas very often. The van uses more gas going to and from church on Sunday than the civic uses in a week of commuting.
