Hope so 'cause that was so unbelievably lame.

DECISION THAT WOULD NOVEMBER ELECTION RESTS WITH SECRETARY OF STATE SHELLEY

By Elise Ackerman

Mercury News

SACRAMENTO - An advisory panel unanimously recommended this morning that Secretary of State Kevin Shelley ban use of a computerized voting system in four California counties.

The panel also called on state Attorney General Bill Lockyer to open a criminal investigation into the conduct of Diebold Election Systems, the Ohio-based firm that manufactured the touch-screen system.

The advisory panel had convened a two-day hearing in Sacramento on Wednesday to review a report that Diebold had jeopardized the March primary by selling an untested and poorly functioning election system in California.

The recommendation to decertify Diebold's TSx balloting system, if adopted, would force officials in San Joaquin, Solano, San Diego and Kern

34. Call the State and Local elections officials NOW!
Thank them for this first step but politely and firmly DEMAND that ALL touch screen equipment be decertified until they offer voter verified paper ballots for allowing proper audit capabilities for our elections!
We won this battle but the war rages on. There are still 13 other counties using Diebold touch screens IIRC, they must be stopped as well.

85. Stock opened even lower today
but looks like it will close the same as yesterday. Around 11:15am EST it looked like a big BUY order went thru, which could be false support by major players who are sympathetic to Wally O'Dell. Something to keep an eye on during the next week. Will State Pension Boards recommend selling Diebold? Could this be an item someone could research?

72. Let's see...Diebold can provide receipts for their ATMs
...and just why is it, again, that they can't get their voting machines to do the same???

69. Let's keep this ball rolling NATIONWIDE!!
This is very encouraging news! Those of us in other states with BBV (I'm in Georgia, the worst of the worst in this regard) need to use this to step up pressure on our local and state officials to stop the use of these crappy, dangerous systems.

86. Don't Forget to Contact Shelley to Stay the Course
Re: Paranoid Pat's post above for contact information.

You have to imagine that the big guns are trained on Shelley right now, telling him what NOT to do.

Time to shower his office in mail, again.

He works for the people, not vested corporate/political interests.

Everyone please- this won't affect just California.

Shelley can be a true patriot- or another sell out.

While you're at it, all for some repercussions on those local election officials who purchased equipment against California LAW.

Why is it they get to complain, huh?

Write the California senators who are pushing a bill to demand voter verified paper ballots by November 2004.

Is it going to be the will of the people, or the will of a few interests?

Don't let decisions be made without your input.

Show them what "Rock" really means!
