Like, say, the time warp that took us back to last week?

This was already resolved in the courts, wasn't it?

Press Release

Air America Radio and MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting Settle Chicago Dispute

Air America Radio is pleased to announce that it has settled its dispute with MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting with regard to WNTD AM in Chicago. As part of the settlement, Air America Radio will remain on WNTD until April 30, 2004. Listeners in Chicago should stay tuned to hear where they may find Air America Radio after April 30, 2004. Air America Radio also will announce shortly where Los Angeles listeners can tune in.

"We are pleased that we reached a negotiated settlement," said David Goodfriend, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Air America Radio.

Air America radio is also available at www.airamericaradio.com and on XM Satellite Radio (channel 167) and Sirius Satellite Radio (channel 125).

6. Ah
Sounds like they're settling the contract dispute by being allowed to dissolve the contract and forge a deal with a different affiliate.

<snip>
Air America Radio, the recently launched liberal talk-radio network that became embroiled last week in a financial dispute with the owner of its Chicago and Los Angeles stations, will broadcast over WNTD-950 AM in Chicago for the last time on April 30, the network said today.

The network also said it will remain off the air for the time being in Los Angeles, where it was yanked off its station there, KBLA-1580, last week by owner Multicultural News Radio.

The announcement settles an acrimonious legal and public relations battle between Air America and Multicultural. It also means that Air America must seek new homes in the nation's second and third-largest markets less than three weeks into its short life.

8. Somebody needs to submit this lie to snopes
because it's now officially a GOP perpetuated urban legend. AA did not bounce the freakin' check for gawd's sake.

11. It doesn't appear that way.
They had to post 150k bond (on the Chicago station) to get the judge to order them back on the air. That usually means one party claims they owe 150k and the other says they don't. If AA claimed that MRB owed THEM money then the judge would have required a bond from them as well.

Obviously, they needed to get off of these two stations since a long-term relationship with the ownership was now impossible. But it sure LOOKS like they had to cough up some money to get out of the deal(s).

I doubt either side is telling us the whole truth, but I follow the money.

I DO agree, however, that it's HIGHLY unlikely that they "bounced" a check (in the traditional understanding). They've got enough start-up capital to last longer than a few weeks. But putting a stop payment on a check can be just as bad.
