AND, when I posted its results I had a lot of people laughing at me because Kerry was JUST 3 points ahead. The point is that he was ahead, and this has been a pattern with Zogby and most other national polls for weeks if not months. So, why all the attention over outlier Gallup?

4. No, I'm talking about attention on DU!
Whores will be whores, but I'm amazed at the extremely different reaction to these polls here.

12. You can't bash Kerry that way
And you can't pat yourself on the back for being right not to support him in the primary. That's why.

It's unbelievably self-destructive.

8. FWIW
I wasn't laughing at you. I was just concerned that something like what has happened today would be exactly what happened, i.e. a more popular poll comes out saying the opposite.

With the margin of error of all these polls, and I do mean all of them, this race is a dead heat. And, as I've said elswhere, it's way too early to put much faith in them when it comes to what will be happening in November. After the conventions, I'll be paying more attention to what the polls say. Even then, if it's not something outside the margin of error, it means very little except in terms of the effect it will have on those who seem to use polls for guidance on how they should vote.

As I said yesterday, despite what all these polls are saying, what worries me is that they don't seem to be affected much by current events. There's something amiss about that. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but it's something. Dramatic events and revelations not even causing a bump in the direction they should go is troubling.

11. Exactly why is Gallup popular? It's wrong more than right!
The only reason anybody pays attention is because CNN pushes it's twin * whore over and over again. CNN NEVER mentions Zogby or any other poll that has * down. Yet down he keeps going. Go look at *'s approval rating on Zogby. It's about 47 if I remember correctly. Under 50 has always been the red alarm point for a president. I think CNN and the rightwing is propping up Gallup because they have to have a poll which will back up its attempt to steal the presidency, again, in November. Hopefully, they won't get away with it.

10. Gallup is ALWAYS higher for Bush.
I've been paying pretty close attention to polling for Bush approval and Bush v Kerry polling and Gallup is always 6-10 points higher than anyone else. When Bush was averaging 60% approval, they always had 66% or more. With Kerry v Bush they always have Bush ahead.

You have to also be weary of "likely" voter polls. This means that they determine who they think will turn out in an election. They may be wrong.

16. Big Changes Always Get More Attention
Most polls have been showing Kerry with a narrow lead. Any poll showing Bush ahead by 5 points or more is bound to get people's attention, even if no one trusts it.

On the other hand, the Zogby poll just confirms what most of us believe anyway.
