The world against Bush!
Edited on Fri Apr-16-04 04:25 PM by KurtNilsen
"Welcome to theworldagainstbush.org!

Theworldagainstbush.org is a campaign to support all our American friends
who we hope will vote George W. Bush out of the White House.

We believe the Bush-administration has been bad for both the U.S. and the rest of the world, and we want a change! The future of the world is in cooperating, and we want to cooperate with our American friends to help elect a president who feels the same.

If you agree with what you just read, please enter your name, city and country below and click "support".

Your reasons for being against Bush are your own, but we who have founded this campaign wish to point out that we are not against America, only the Bush-administration.

Knud Edmund Berthelsen
Founder of theworldagainstbush.org"

This is an organisation started by a member of Norway's liberal party (Liberal in the European sense - kind of like the Liberal Democrats in the UK)

What do you think of initiatives like this?

2. But, what do you think of people in other countries than the
US trying to influence the American elections.

And, with foreigners like me hanging out at DU :-)

My two cents, is that the American presidency impacts the world so much, that is the duty of other people around the world to care.

6. Hey, all's fair...
My two cents agrees with your two cents.

The FACT is that anything the U.S. does impacts the rest of the world like gangbusters. This IS a global village.

Frankly, if we're to have ANY hope of gaining other nations' help in Iraq, it's going to have to be under the leadership of A NEW PRESIDENT. bush has pissed off the rest of the world (especially countries whose participation would make a BIG difference, like France, Germany, the revamped Spain, and all those other nations that knew enough to stay away from the "coalition of the willing." NOBODY is going to listen to him now, or take him seriously, or believe him, or want to help him. His arrogance and pig-headedness and "my way or the highway" attitude, plus all the name-calling ("Old Europe") and derision ("freedom fries") have NOT HELPED. It's as though he's never read "How to Win Friends and Influence People." The world will not step up to help bush, especially since most of them begged him not to go, voted against it in the UN, and many of them provided him with intel that was ignored and sneered at.

I firmly believe the world would respond willingly and openly to a John Kerry appearance at the UN, late next January, to announce that "We're Under New Management." In fact, I believe it would be "all is forgiven" to us from the rest of the world - if bush is no longer a factor. Because if bush goes, remember: he takes cheney, rummy, condi, wolfie, perlie, libby, feithy, and the rest of the PNAC scum with him. It's not just bush we'd be getting rid of. It's his whole abominable, greedy, belligerent, arrogant, crusade-lusting cabal.

For those of you who have friends (as I do) who say they voted for bush because - while they knew he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, at least he was going to surround himself with good people - THIS IS A PRIMO ARGUMENT TO MAKE. My best friend, who recently admitted that to me, has seen the light, because of THIS very argument.

7. I could care less
if foreigners tried to influence American elections because, as you stated, what happens in America does affect the rest of the world. There's a lot of right wing idiots here that might make it an issue. but they're a minority. I think the more people in the U.S. realize how opposed the rest of the world is to Bush, the more likely they are to think twice about supporting him. Even among Bush supporters, there's still a desire to be good neighbors with the world. They're the ones that still like to think that everything the United States does is noble and good. The more they see that it isn't so, the better.

4. Great! The help is welcome, but....
An organization like this must be very careful what course they follow. There should probably be very little communication between us in the USA and foreign anti-Bush organizations. The right would jump all over this, likewise the media, if there were "foreigners interfering in our elections". Americans are very insular by nature. And the less intelligent among us are more than a little xenophobic. Let me be plain, the average American would be easily swayed to vote against the desires of the foreigners who seek to affect the outcome of an American election.

I applaud and encourage your desire to help us, but any organized effort should be done with great care. Private communication is an option, but doing this in a public forum like DU is dangerous to the cause.

There's a lot you can do. Good luck.

5. Thanks for your response. I know exactly what you mean.
I don't think American is unique in this respect. Every country hate being interfered with by foreingers. Just look at Iraq. In Norway, the more countries like the US and Australia tries to bully us when it comes to whaling, the more we will support it.

Foreign Bush-haters should be careful.

8. Just to let everyone know, the Irish aren't too happy with * either.

I found these quotes on the Gaelic Games Discussion Board today under the thread entitled "Quote of the Month". This discussion board is mainly about Hurling (an ancient game of Ireland) and Gaelic Football, but when I spotted these this morning and afternoon, I had to share them with everyone.

Chimpy is gonna get SOME reception in Ireland in June when he goes to address the EU.

I can't wait to see how the whores in the American media spin his reception. But then again, he'll probably try his "Free Speech Zones" in the "oul country". Good luck, it ain't gonna happen.

From the Muppet: “Displaying all the accuracy of a Mayo forward:
"Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"
(Jan. 11, 2000).
"I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family"
(Jan. 27, 2000).
"The most important job is not to be governor, or first lady in my case"
(San Antonio Express-News, Jan. 30, 2000).
"I promise you I will listen to what has been said here, even though I wasn't here"
(Aug. 13, 2002).

From Maddog:
George Bush when stumped by a reporter on whether he had made any mistakes in Iraq and Afghanistan "er hmm, im sure something will come into my head" or words to that effect.
cringeworthy.

And finally from Declan: Bushisms
You gotta despair when you read these.

Obviously, I pray every day there's less casualty."
George W. Bush, Fort Hood, Texas, April 11, 2004

George W. Bush, Los Angeles, Calif., March 3, 2004

George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Feb. 19, 2004

"The march to war affected the people's confidence. It's hard to make investment. See, if you're a small business owner or a large business owner and you're thinking about investing, you've got to be optimistic when you invest. Except when you're marching to war, it's not a very optimistic thought, is it? In other words, it's the opposite of optimistic when you're thinking you're going to war." George W. Bush, Springfield, Mo., Feb. 9, 2004

"The recession started upon my arrival. It could have been — some say February, some say March, some speculate maybe earlier it started — but nevertheless, it happened as we showed up here. The attacks on our country affected our economy. Corporate scandals affected the confidence of people and therefore affected the economy. My decision on Iraq, this kind of march to war, affected the economy."
George W. Bush, Meet the Press, Feb. 8, 2004

"See, one of the interesting things in the Oval Office — I love to bring people into the Oval Office — right around the corner from here — and say, this is where I office, but I want you to know the office is always bigger than the person."
George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Jan. 29, 2004

"More Muslims have died at the hands of killers than — I say more Muslims — a lot of Muslims have died — I don't know the exact count — at Istanbul. Look at these different places around the world where there's been tremendous death and destruction because killers kill." George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Jan. 29, 2004
