Anyone know the Republican who runs Air America?
A talk-radio network that has ties to Guam was pulled off the air this week in Chicago and Los Angeles because of a dispute over payments for airtime.

Guam businessman Rex Sorensen and former Guam resident and businessman Evan Montvel-Cohen are key backers of the new, liberal radio network, Air America Radio, which started broadcasting two weeks ago.

--snip--

Montvel-Cohen, the chairman of Air America, is former vice president of Sorensen Pacific and former market research specialist on Guam.

Montvel-Cohen, who also worked as chief of staff for former Republican Sen. Tommy Tanaka, has been involved in several political issues on Guam, according to Pacific Daily News files.

I realize that in the business world alliances shift but I was wondering if anyone had any information on Evan Montvel-Cohen?

1. I don't know that ...
but I do know that MultiCultural Broadcasting and Radio Unica (which has replaced AAR in LA and Chicago) has financial backing by GE.

3. That would have to be a repuke *territorial* senator
Guam has a non-voting rep in the U.S. House but none in the Senate.

Montvel-Cohen (who, intriguingly, is identified on AA's website as "Evan M. Cohen") is apparently not a full-on repuke:

A year later, Montvel-Cohen was chairman of "Concerned Citizens for Honesty and Integrity in Government," which collected and spent nearly $15,000 for several negative television and print ads about Democratic Sen. Ben Pangelinan and several Republican candidates.

Looks like he likes to give it to both sides.

Wouldn't you just know, my Chamorro (native Guamanian) colleague is off work with a difficult pregnancy. I did, however, send this along to another friend who once ran a business over there.

DEVELOPING...

4. Thanks, my wife lived on Guam for ten years.
Her mom and sister still live there. She found the article and I thought it was curious.

5. One tiny bothersome thing about AA - attitudes towards Palestinians
The only thing that bothers me is, the jabs at Palestinians. Little wisecracks about suicide bombers. I am sorry, but as an outsider to the I/P thing, I can't help but see people with tremendous resources displacing people with extremely limited resources. The wise cracks bother me - I don't think the American Progressive movement needs to be anchored in this conflict.

Anyone else notice this?
