Sign here to condemn the threat made to Rumsfeld in Florida.
Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 01:56 PM by LoZoccolo
Drudge is running this story and doing his tenuous best to try to link it to the Kerry campaign:

http://www.drudgereport.com/rc7r.htm

Obviously, most of us here and most Kerry supporters, myself included, don't condone this type of threat. However, you know the right-wing media is gonna be all over this action on the part of a few people who don't really represent Kerry in this view - so lets sign this thread to show what overwhelming dismay and condemnation there is for this foolish and irresponsible gesture made by the St. Petersburn Democratic Club. Also, we condemn any disingenuous attempt to link this action to Kerry or Kerry supporters.

Also - please help out and alert any posts in support of the threat - it's completely uncalled for.

Drudge is hardly credible, why waste time leigitimizing his worthless inannity.

48. It doesn't matter if they did or they didn't.
That'll eventually come out if they didn't, and if it comes out that they didn't, we can use it as another example of how the right-wing somehow feels it has to lie about stuff all the time. Plus they're only a small group of people and I take it all but maybe two or three are pretty steaming mad about what these couple of ad-placers did without their permission. But it doesn't matter because the issue right now is that they're making a bullshit desperate attempt (saying something is disingenuous is just a polite way of saying it's bullshit) to link it to the Kerry campaign or Democrats in general, and that we know right now is bullshit, and I just invited everyone else to condemn it to show that it's bullshit.

Hardly the tactics of a right-winger to try to indemnify the rest of Kerry's support, wouldn't you think? Think about these things before you go accuse someone of being a disruptor, however indirectly. And you know you were doing it and know it's against the rules, otherwise you wouldn't have done it so waywardly, twice because I catch the "doth protest too much" thing too. Whatever, don't do it again. I don't wanna hit alert because I think you should hear this rather than get in trouble for it.

23. Nothing, but they are a real group/club
look, if we want to dismiss wackos on our side as being plants, or a story about them as being false, while the rest of America looks at them as the norm, not the exception, then we are NOT going to win in November.

If we would distance ourselves from crap like this, then it would be better for us.

To have the only argument be, "Its from Drudge, he sucks, he's a right-winger" doesn't refute the quote from the ad. Jeepers Creepers have already started their calling campaign, and the publisher has said he will print an apology, as will the club. Why are they apologizing if it isn't true? (see below for the post from Creepers site)

It looks bad towards Democrats, dammit. We need to distance ourselves from this drivel. We have issues we can win on, not rhetoric.

From Jeepers Creepers:
http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1116787/posts?page=242#242

To: Petronski; Quilla; mewzilla; All
I just spoke with the Publisher of the newspaper:

Ken Reichart......727-321-6965

He says that the newspaper will be issuing an apology in the next issue. And that the St. Pete Dems will be apologizing as well.

I told him that the ad was irresponsible. And I reminded him that a mentally ill person tried to kill President Reagan over a movie star. I said that in he future the paper should show more responsibility in taking ads.

I told him the Ad 'reeked with hatred' and that I didn't think it would win the Dems any votes. He said he tended to agree.

KEEP CALLING THEM!

27. So a Freeper confirms it... It MUST be a real group
Nothing in that post proves they are a real Democratic group. They could easily be a group set up by this Freeper to do precisely what was mentioned in Drudge's article. Even if they issue an apology it still doesn't prove anything.

Exactly. Remember when Michael Dukakis was "above the fray" regarding Willie Horton? Did him a lot of good while he waited like two weeks to respond to it, didn't it? He finally did come out with the facts about the furlough program, but it was too late.

Fellow Democrats. Thank you for your support now and in the future. You may have heard about an ad in the Gabber. We do not condone violence against anyone or negative advertisements. We do not approve ads run by other groups or clubs. We want debate to remain on the issues.

46. You accused me of posting a "drive-by post".
I was asking how that would work - how would my post work as a drive-by post. I posted something that's out of the bag whether we like it or not - even if it's bullshit, it's still going to go around a little, and I was just trying to do something little to counter it.

It's not some obscure rumor from some place like NewsMax or WorldNetDaily or some pass-around email, so it doesn't gain significantly more exposure from me posting it here. It's very unlikely that it would change anyone's opinion about Kerry or his campaign here, especially seeing as I call the Kerry connection as being bullshit and invite everyone here to do the same right in the post.

So tell me, how does this fulfill anything that a "drive-by post" would? You made that accusation, now stand by it or retract it.

What, he get's a hold of this, and now, speaking in the indirect figurative is considered a threat? What about the THOUSANDS of direct threats made on R/W rags against Bill Clinton that went unmentioned? His included!

Same stuff different day. The republican press makes a wildly false accusation, to get the sheeple hurriedly forwarding it all over the place, and expects the liberals to go on the defensive immediately. I don't think so. I am not signing, or giving these pieces of human garbage ANY type of information about my personal life. Don't you know what those types will do with that type of information?
