Warning: repulsive freeper screed ahead. Consider yourself warned.
Ok, if you're easily offended by the trash that passes for humor among freepers, don't read this. I don't want to be banned for posting this, but I have an important question to ask you good people.

A close friend of mine sent me this e-mail today. I immediately typed a response and sent it to a liberal friend of mine who also recieved this shit from the same sender. Here it is...

Little David was in his 5th grade class when the teacher asked the children
>what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up --
>fireman, policeman, salesman, doctor, lawyer, etc.
>
>David was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him
>about his father.
>
>"My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his
>clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll
>go out
>to the alley with some guy and make love with him for money."
>
>The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other
>children to work on some exercises and took little David aside to ask him,
>"Is that really true about your father?"
>
>"No," said David, "He works for the Kerry campaign, but I was too
>embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids."

I've had words with this asshole friend of mine over politics before. We even had a two month standoff during high school over some awful comments she made. My liberal friend said that I should just take this as a joke and not get upset. But I ask you, how am I not supposed to get upset over this? This really makes my blood boil. Should I finally tell her off once and for all or not? If I did, this would probably send ripples among my close-knit group of friends, costing me possibly three or four more friendships. I'm willing to take that risk because, frankly, I'm really growing tired of being friends with anyone who has a single good word to say about Bush*. What do you people think?

2. Sounds like you've already made up your mind.
A friend sent you such a nasty little story, knowing your political views? This person is not acting as a friend. Maybe the fallout won't be as bad as you think. Good luck.

Point number nine of an anti-DU site on how to rile DUers

If you make a post like "My Dad emailed me this", "What are we going to do when the GOP exposes this" "What will we say about this" or some other sneaky way of putting out a GOP issue out, be very careful. They are well aware of this tactic.

9. No, it wasn't said about Bush.
It was said about all of us, being Kerry supporters (for the most part). As for accusations of me being an infiltrator, I assure you I am not. That's why I gave you fair warning and clearly labled this as freeper bullshit when I posted it. Besides, most of those moles try to post things that would divide us, under the guise of "well, consider this aspect..."

Clearly this does not divide us. If anything, it should remind us that the other side holds us and our views in contempt and that we should redouble our efforts to expose these mean, condescending blowhards for what they really are.

10. It has been said about Shrub...
and that's the way I heard a couple of months ago.

It may even have been posted here.

Lighten up is right-- it's a joke that's probably been recycled for years.

(and I did laugh when I first heard it, even giggled a little when I saw it this time)

7. I say... let the friend go.
If a frienship is strong, this person can withstand the DESERVED criticism for sending out that type of hateful, political tripe to a friend they now would be upset. If you lose "friends" over that.. well, they weren't friends after all, were they? If you can't be who you are, everything you are, when you're with them... then why have them around?

I just received a rather cheezy 9/11 tribute email. It was pretty lame... but along with the email was a comment criticizing Mrs. Kerry for supporting the women protesting Bush's use of the 9/11 images for political gain. Risking a friendship, I wrote back to my friend that sent this.. and told her that I totally supported Mrs. Kerry, and ANYONE who fights Bush's use of those 9/11 images. I risked the friendship, and in a nice way, told my friend that I didn't agree with the email and comments. We're still friends.

You have to stand up for what you believe in. You can do it nicely, but you can't continue to receive garbage like that from "friends".

12. Just in case you're doubting my sincerity as a liberal, here's my response
I think you'll clearly see my anger and die-hard liberalness in what I considered sending back to her (I may end up doing it anyway).

Nice story,

WTF?

I fail to see how this furthers any kind of civil debate. It is this
condescending tone which sparks so much anger and deviseiveness today. When
has Sid or I (the two people I would characterize as active liberals on this
list) ever put out any shit like this about Bush supporters? For the most
part I try to maintain respect for Bush supporters, if not for Bush himself.
When have I ever slimed Republicans as people like this? I know you must
think this is a joke but it's not funny.

As far as I can see, the Republicans do a great deal of complaining about
partisanship and negative attacks. Why is it, then, that the right wing
assumes an air of superiority all the time and acts like anybody who opposes
them is part of some pitiful minority, bludgeoning people over the head with
silly rhetorical questions and disgusting jokes like this. Allow me to
remind you who got the majority of votes in the last election. When you
combine the number of Gore and Nader votes, the liberal candidates got 53%
of the vote in the 2000 election. That's hardly a pitiable minority. You
turn off more people than you amuse with such bullshit.

You people disseminate screed like this and then wonder why so many people
don't like you. Oh, I get it... whenever we say something against Bush, it's
irrational "Bush hatred", you marginalize our views and treat us like
lunatics. All the while, you put out things like this and then wonder why
your views don't get more respect. I know a lot of you don't believe in
polls, but I put some faith in them. Let me tell you something. There was a
poll taken in February by Newsweek (I believe). When asked, 58% of people
said they had a "positive" view of the Democratic party. Only 40% of people
had a positive view of the Republican party.

One more thing I'd like to point out... for a party that's so homophobic,
you sure do bring up gays a lot. Case and point, Senator Rick Santorum. Mr.
Morality himself, who has made repeated referances to "man-on-dog sex" in
the press, and who has called fellow Senator Tom Daschle a "mad dog". I'll
let that man-on-dog comment speak for itself.

I suppose I should thank you though. I'd gone a whole hour without a
reminder of why that Bush fellow has to go. That was mostly because I had
the TV off. It's crap like this that reminds me why I oppose conservatism.

Proud to be a liberal progressive,
Rockymountaindem

15. Serious reply...
but you don't need to convince us you're not a mole. The paranoia will subside. Everything said here is just electrons, just words on a screen.

Personally, I agree with you, but I just don't get all het up about some needling from the opposition. If I did, I'd be fighting all day long.

They send us stuff like this to piss us off, and then get all giggly when we jump up and down-- it's just a troll. Don't fall for it. Best thing is just to send back a Shrub joke.

Remember the one about the clocks? Gets 'em every time.

Subject: What our kids really say...

What does your father do?

Little David was in his 5th grade class when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living.

All the typical answers came up-Fireman, policeman, salesman, etc... David was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father.

"My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes In front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy and make love with him for money."

The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some coloring, and took little David aside to ask him, "Is that really true about your father?"

"No," said David, "He works for the Bush administration, but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids."

---------------------

My guess, based strictly on the timing, is that this was originally written about the Bush administration, but who knows about the genesis of such things.

I would send this back along with a short note that says Republicans don't understand what an absolute disgrace to America they have become, and turning the words around on jokes is never going to change that. Copy all the same people.

18. Jeez, everybody is taking the same jokes and just changing the names
in the punch line. I first saw it the bush* way too. My friend from Oregon sent it a while back. At least I think it was her. Anyway, who cares. Dems do the same thing. I do. Don't sweat the small stuff. If you get an e-mail and someone is being dead serious about Kerry doing something wrong, or misrepresenting his political views, that's the time to get angry. And as was once said in that great cinematic classic Animal House, "Don't get mad, get even."

22. Thanks people
perhaps I did overreact. The thing that made me mad is that I never say things like that to my friends. If you're going to get into a joke slugfest, that's one thing. This just seemed in bad taste to me. I'm not one for jokes like that anyway, I'm more of the sarcastic type. I'll reconsider my response and deliver something a litle more mellow.

Thanks for helping me calm down.

25. I think you need to calm down,
because the first time I saw this exact joke was when the punchline said "he works for PRESIDENT BUSH, I was just too embarrassed to say it." The repukes, unable to come up with ANYTHING original on their own at all, have just appropriated it for their own sick bullshit purposes. Really, I don't see the difference, both sides have the right to use jokes to their advantage and the other's disadvantage.
