Something from ThisWeek (George Steph.): GEORGE WILL
was the most direct and effective critic of Bush*'s performance and the only one with good replies to Richard Perle.
By the way, why does nobody ask Richard Perle WHAT RIGHT DOES HE HAVE TO INTERFERE WITH OFFICIAL US POLICY???? He is not a government employee or elected by anybody.

1. Ah, and I forgot: Perle has the gall to criticize the UN for
corruption....unmitigated gall.
UN apparently WAS corrupt, but compared to Perle, who is a single individual, they really are babes in the woods.

2. Uh oh they lost Will.. wasn't a big fan of poppy either, was a big critic
just before the election of 92. If he starts bashing them then they will lose.

3. My rushed transcript
This week ABC:

Iraquagmire

Steph asks Bremer: will Iraqi soveirgnity be able to veto US Army?
Bremer: I don't theorize, I plan on the future. (WTF?)

Kerry from canned clip: reverse the policy

Sen. Collins: Put Iraqi face on the occupation
UN high commissioner only option
More troops necessary, but remove Nat. Gaurd, redeploy troops from other places like Bosnia.
Don't have control in Iraq. Major challenge

Beers: Change the strategy
unable to negotiate with Iraqis

Will: * concedes UN should be political power, if they want it, let them have that mess
Where are the 25 million Iraqis?
Thugs who stand and fight are not thugs, more than thugs, BS to say they are against Democracy

Perle: UN contribution is questionable, when bombed they left,
No mass uprising, small number of people, Sadr not gaining power, Sadr is a thug,
Got to deal with flair-ups
We hand it over at end of June,
Iraqi Gov. council have been treated as children, we have been acting in their name, Chalabi likes how we have acted, must have confidence in Chalabi

PDB:

Beers... told Pres serious prob.
Intel claimed 1) intent, 2) cells in US, 3)al-Quaida is very deliberate. Don't discount attack on US.

Perle: Prez. couldn't shutdown US skies. Pres. couldn't do anything...

Will: asks about Pheonix memo

Collins: dismisses whole PDB, not fair now to say should've connected the dots and say it could have been prevented

Pierre Thomas: FBI: investigations not lead back to 19 hijackers....FBI 95% certain attack overseas... bullseye on FBI, Freeh wanted 1,800 agents... Ashcroft indifferent to terrorism....

Iraq memorial: More Americans dead in one week since Saddam fell. Listed 47 names

4. I agree with your sentiment.
Since when does a group of unelected neocon's views override the function of the House/Senate to debate and decide the foreign policy of the US? To me, Kerry should be pounding on ths point. It should be obvious that the myopic worldview of a small bunch of extremists is not the way prudent US policy should be formulated.

5. Did you catch Will literally rolling his eyes and grimacing?
Every time Perle opened his fat mouth, Will looked like he wanted to pop him in his well-larded chops.

9. IMHO, Perle was deeply shocked that Will...
...would ask that question, particularly since Perle is one of the architects of the PNAC document "Rebuilding America". That document contains the statement that the only way the American people would be willing to rapidly carry out the PNACers plans would be after they had been galvanized "by another Pearl Harbor".

And the correct answer is "We knew the Japanese were coming and when they would arrive". I also believe that is the correct answer for 911...just exchange "Al Qaeda" for "the Japanese.

8. Perle is a TRAITOR
This dude tried to sabotage President Clinton's peace process. He should be in the slammer:

"The Middle East peace talks at Camp David became the subject of a political scandal in the US last night when reports emerged that one of George W Bush's foreign policy advisers had warned the Israeli delegation to be prepared to walk out of negotiations.

Richard Perle, a veteran cold war warrior and former assistant secretary of state, urged the Israeli prime minister, Ehud Barak, not to agree to any settlement which left the future status of Jerusalem unresolved, according to the New York Post website"

10. Will seemed absolutely incredulous that Shrub did not
Edited on Sun Apr-11-04 11:56 AM by amandabeech
seem to have asked any questions about the statements in the PDB about current AQ and FBI activities. Will was astonished that there was no follow-up and seemed to suggest that if there had been, then perhaps 9/11 would not have happened.

Will is an arch-conservative, but I think he hates idiots more than he does liberals. I think that he has the Shrub's number, to his credit.

What was in the rest of that PDB? Saddam, Saddam, and nothing but Saddam?

On edit: I'm writing about Will and I don't use the spell check. The ultimate arrogance. And that was an intentional sentence fragment (as is this).
