History of Muslims in West Bank.
A friend told me today that the Muslims in Palestine were not living in Palestine before the 6 Day War but only moved there when their Arab nations believed they were about to destroy Israel. Then, when Israel won the war, they were stuck.

Is this true? Somehow, I can't see thousands of people moving into Palestine in 6 days.

Anybody have a (unbiased) link to the recent history of Islam in Palestine?
Thanks.

1. Ummm...
that's interesting to say the least.

It sounds like it's kind of concocted from several debates over the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

There is a debate as to how many Arabs lived in modern-day Israel prior to 1948. There are those who say that there was a large Arab community that had dated back hundreds of years. Others say that the Jews always outnumbered the Arabs, even before more Jews started moving into the region around 1900. This is the foundation of the dispute over whether or not the land (Israel proper) belonged to Jews or if the Jews "occupied" it.

As to the part about the Six Day War, the Israelis took the land known as the "west bank" and Gaza at that time. Again, there are disputes about whether the war was justified and if the Israelis should still be there or not. However, it was only at this time that people started talking about "Paelstinian nationalism" etc etc.

3. There where arabs in Palestine prior to the 6 Day War.
They where there for hundreds of years. The population was mostly arab, both Muslim and Christian. This population was in villages, and larger towns like Nablus, Jaffa, and, of course, Jersualm.

There was also a Jewish population there too, mostly in Jerusalem and also a rural "samaritan" population. Yet, in 1880, at the avent of the First Aliyah, the population was 95% arab.

The modern Jewish population came to what is now Israel during the various aliyahs: heres a good link to the history of alyahs:

4. go to
<http://www.us-israel.org> click history. then read the articles about the "ancient" Jewish -Islamic-Christian interactions..it`s alot different than what we have been led to believe by the corrupter's of each religion. then you can start on the history of the recent conflict.

5. I don't think US-Israel.org is an unbiased account.
It is definitely pro Israel to the extreme. Geez.
