Local NC Army Reserve Officer: Draft by January 2005.
This was relayed to me by a close relative who had the conversation (She works in the same organisation as the reserve (a reservist coordinator I think) guy)on Thursday. They're simply running out of qualified soldiers and options.

Reservists morale in the shitter too due to lengthened tours and ugly scenes in Iraq.

Barring some huge developments it's going to happen.

I hope this person (The reservist) was just being over dramatic.

1. It too early to say I told you so.
But I (and others) can tell that this is happening. The current situation isn't sustainable.

4. The current situation is likely to embolden other countries.
Like Iran, Syria, oh hell, OPEC.

We simply can't ivade an occupy everyone...Or at least that would seem to be the case.

2. Well, if I stop posting around here you'll know where I went.

I'll be 18 by then and I suppose a prime candidate for drafting, except that I currently have a Canadian student visa that entitles me to stay in the Dominion until 2007.

I wouldn't mind being drafted though. That would insulate me from claims of "anti-Americanism" and "anti-militarism". Who knows? Maybe someday I can be one of those old dudes at the VFW telling the future young freepers to can their fascist bullshit because I served and they didn't.

On edit:

Anyone know if they'll let an 18 year old be an officer? I'll have 2 years of university education behind me by then, and an International Baccalaureate diploma from high school (if that means anything to them, but I was told by all my IB teachers it is rather prestigeious).

6. Personally speaking as a former serviceman, you need to stay as far...
...away from the draft as possible. Those draftees will end up being nothing but ground-pounder cannon-fodder.

If you have some weird obssession with going into the service anyway, volunteer for a branch that will do you the most good, like the Air Force or Navy.

7. Can you decide to serve in one of those branches after you've been drafted
or do you have to go into the army. I personally think the Navy would be the best. Would I have to go enlist before I got drafted if I thought it was likely, or what?

3. Can't you hear george and his buddies now? "So many wars, so few
warm bodies. We NEED MORE CANNON FODDER."

P.S. Not their kids though.

5. Again.. Just say no...
Screw these elitist bastards. NO ONE should go. If they want blood, let them fight it. If there's a draft by Jan 2005 - there will be acts of widespread civil disobedience by Feb 2005.

If they want anarchy, they got it.

8. I hope not
The reason I don't think it will happen any time soon is because of the election. There's no way they could keep that under wraps, and if it got leaked, Bush could kiss the election goodbye. Not that I think he stands a chance of winning in November anyway.

9. Perhaps it's because there's no shortage of volunteers in Fallujah.....
......willing to fight us for their sovereignty. :(

These are people headed into Fallujah to fight yesterday!
