BBV - imagine this possibility
Yesterday on Randi Rhodes' show - she made a great point. Florida will not allow recounting of their electronic voting. She said due to possiblity of hacking some 13-year old boy in India could be elected president. Making sure our votes get counted is the singlemost important issue in 2004 election, IMHO.

2. Correction
I'm sure you meant that you can't recount an electronic vote at all.

What the vendors and hoodwinked election officials call "recounting" of touch screens without a voter verified paper ballot, is a reprint after the fact of whatever the computer recorded as your vote.

It's not your ballot, it's the computer's ballot. Whatever the computer says, goes.

Voter verified paper ballots. Then back it up with robust, random auditing.

3. it may well be the single most important issue, but . . .
it ain't gonna happen . . . even if Congress passes legislation mandating an auditable paper trail, it won't be in time for this year's elections . . . we might as well resign ourselves to the fact that BushCo owns the machines, and they can essentially produce any result they want come November . . . by altering the vote totals in a few key districts in a few key states, they will insure that they remain in power, and it appears there's not much we can do about it at this point . . . hate to sound negative, but I don't see the Democrats standing up in unison and demanding vote printouts . . . and the Repugs certainly aren't going to do it . . .

4. That's NOT TRUE at all......
.....there's still more than enough time to pass legislation mandating the use of paper ballots before the November election. Time is running short but it's not too late to do something NOW! Get busy and call your representatives NOW! :)
