Powell Unsure Now???
I can't believe this sh*t! This may have been posted already but I just thought I'd share if it hasn't:

Powell no longer sure that Iraqi trailers were weapons labs
Top U.S. diplomat concedes presentation to U.N. may have been wrong
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell speaks to reporters at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Friday.
The Associated Press
Updated: 9:27 a.m. ET April 03, 2004WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Colin Powell conceded Friday evidence he presented to the United Nations that two trailers in Iraq were used for weapons of mass destruction may have been wrong.

In an airborne news conference on the way home from NATO talks in Brussels, Belgium, Powell said he had been given solid information about the trailers that he told the Security Council in February 2003 were designed for making biological weapons.

But now, Powell said, “it appears not to be the case that it was that solid.”

He said he hoped the intelligence commission appointed by President Bush to investigate prewar intelligence on Iraq “will look into these matters to see whether or not the intelligence agency had a basis for the confidence that they placed in the intelligence at that time.”

Powell’s dramatic case to the Security Council that Iraq had secret arsenals of weapons of mass destruction failed to persuade the council to directly back the U.S.-led war that deposed the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. But it helped mobilize sentiment among the American people for going to war.

3. Powell is a lying piece of dog shit!
He knew going into the UN Security Council that the "intelligence" he had was bogus. He was lying then and he's lying now. He's trying hard to not get "Condi-ed" and hung out to dry. He is shit.

I think Powell knew all of the evidence was bullshit right from the get-go. Now it seems he's trying to come clean? Either way, this isn't even news.

Good find though. Thanks. I'll show this to the Liberty Post people and see how they handle this.

13. I agree that Powell knew that the "evidence" was........
bullshit from the beginning, and as the snip from the article referenced in the original post says, (something along the lines of) Powell failed to convince the U.N. delegates of the urgency with which Iraq needed to be disarmed, but the appearance helped to solidify the Americans view that we needed to go; essentially, Powell knew that he was lying and he knew that the international community wouldn't buy it, but he also knew that the average American would....hook, line and sinker.

Powell/Bush never went to the U.N. expecting them to go along with it, they only went and did their dog and pony shows because they were counting on the fact that Americans would by and large fall for it and therefore support it.

Pretty sad really.

6. My take on Powell is
that he wants to get out in front of the Woodward book that's coming out soon. Methinks that it will not paint Powell or the administration as being particularly truthful about the run-up to Iraq. (As if there were a question). The fact that ass-cyst Limpuke is already decrying the Woodward book makes me believe that it's gonna be dynamite.

11. I remember his appearance before the UN as such a parody...
...of Adlie (sp?)Stevenson during the Cuban Missle Crisis...Powell presented drawings while Stevenson presented photos...I am certain the comparison was just what the White House was going for, but like alot of other Karl Rove images, it just becomes useless when the facts come out.

12. Question is: why now? he knew it was a lie all along - why speak now?
Rat jumping a sinking ship? The Clarke effect? What's the point of this?
there was an AP story last year - long piece DOCUMENTING all Powell's lies at the UN (not just the trailers). We know he said in 2001 "Saddam has nothing" and before UN "I can't go with this crap".
SO WHY SPEAK UP NOW?
