I just sent off some CNN feedback. Please do the same.
I just sent the following off to CNN. I think the corporate media pro-Bush propaganda machine needs to be a TOP subject these days.

I urge you all to do the same, this needs to be a major issue.

"I've been following the flap over the "yawning boy" video aired on David Letterman's program and subsequently on CNN.

To my understanding, CNN is now claiming they were NOT contacted by the White House regarding the issue of the boy being edited into the video.

If this is the case, I'd like to know who at CNN took it upon themselves to say that they did. Clearly, this was no "misunderstanding" - either your offices were contacted by the White House or they were not.

If you were not contacted by the Bush administration, SOMEone at CNN had to take it upon themselves to write (or type) on that paper handed to Ms. Kagan that they had been contacted.

Speaking personally, it would be VERY difficult for me to misunderstand whether or not I had been contacted by someone.

In your later report on the story, another anchor reported that the child was there - but not necessarily in that location next to Bush. As Letterman also stated that THIS claim was false and the child was EXACTLY where he was portrayed to be in the video clip, my question is WHO is pushing this information to your anchors? It's either the White House or someone at CNN and I'd like to know which one it is.

So, tell me CNN. Are you a news outlet reporting facts or are you a propaganda machine controlled by the administration (or persons inside your organization who wish to forward this administration's agenda)?

Which is it, CNN?"

1. Good email
Just sent one with similar sentiments to Darren Kagen. I'm really disappointed in her. She seemed more on the level than most at CNN.

3. My message...

I would like to ask you, exactly how stupid you think the American public is... Nevermind, we all know the answer.

Did the White House tell you to lie about the boy in the Letterman clip or did you make it up to cover for the White House? It's one or the other. There is no misunderstanding involved here.

You are either blindly regurgitating anything the White House hands you, or you are covering for the White House. Which is it?

Either way, your credibility is now zero. You might as well all wear Bush/Cheney pins because that is exactly what you are...shills.

Tell Bill (AEI) Schneider, Candey (republican) Crowley, and the rest of the children that the entire American public is on to their idiotic poll spinning, administration fawning farce of a news network.

Your network is a joke and when Air America gets rolling you will all be exposed as the corrupt, Bush ring kissing shills that you so truly are.

Michael

P.S. I dare you to read this letter on the air in it's entirety.

4. here's what I wrote
You're either lying .... or you're lying. Which is it?

I'm referring to the now-infamous David Letterman "yawning boy" story.

Do you guys REALLY let the White House tell you what to say?

Or do you simply take it upon yourselves to do what you THINK the White House wants you to do?

Either way, it's disgusting. You people should be shut down, you should have a class action lawsuit filed against you, and you should lose whatever license you have to report the fucking NEWS.

You aren't journalists anymore, you are shills for this so-called administration.

I am so thoroughly disgusted with you I can't even find words to tell you.

Fuck you, CNN.

5. All good letters so far, here is mine
Regarding the Yawning Boy during Bush's speech.

I am concerned. It appears to me that CNN wants to make sure that its news team present this administration in a good light, whether it is because of a supposed call or not. CNN rapidly went to the defense of this administration's image making up anything they could think of to make sure the general public did not think a young teen yawned during a political speech. Where was the threat? A young teen yawned and CNN rapidly started spinning stories to make Bush appear as if political speeches do not bore young teens.

Your creditability has taken a big hit.

If in fact you did this action because of a call from the WH, you appear to be a toady. If you did this without even getting the call, you appear to be a scared toady.

And somewhere in that tale of the call from the WH, someone lied. Either CNN or the WH.

Again, your creditability has been damaged.

8. Done. I wrote:
"I'm writing to express my disappointment and concern regarding your report that a tape of a boy yawning during George Bush's speech was somehow "doctored." Perhaps I am simply out of touch with contemporary journalism, but my understanding was that news organizations have an obligation to check facts before they make statements.

Your coverage of that particular "event" wasn't far removed from National Enquirer-style news stories. You implied someone was out to ridicule Bush by falsifying a videotape. My best guess is that this was the result of a phone call from the White House that you eagerly passed along as fact.

The apology expressed by Daryn Kagan was inadequate and qualified. As a result, I will take my news from CNN with a grain of salt. Do your homework or expect to lose viewers. We don't need another Fox News."

13. Unfortunately...
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 10:41 PM by Shoedogg
it's already been established in the courts that the "news" outlets are not _required_ to tell the truth:

On February 14, a Florida Appeals court ruled there is absolutely nothing illegal about lying, concealing or distorting information by a major press organization. The court reversed the $425,000 jury verdict in favor of journalist Jane Akre who charged she was pressured by Fox Television management and lawyers to air what she knew and documented to be false information. The ruling basically declares it is technically not against any law, rule, or regulation to deliberately lie or distort the news on a television broadcast.

On August 18, 2000, a six-person jury was unanimous in its conclusion that Akre was indeed fired for threatening to report the station's pressure to broadcast what jurors decided was "a false, distorted, or slanted" story about the widespread use of growth hormone in dairy cows.

The court did not dispute the heart of Akre's claim, that Fox pressured her to broadcast a false story to protect the broadcaster from having to defend the truth in court, as well as suffer the ire of irate advertisers.

Fox argued from the first, and failed on three separate occasions, in front of three different judges, to have the case tossed out on the grounds there is no hard, fast, and written rule against deliberate distortion of the news. The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdock, argued the First Amendment gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves.

24. Not too mention all the brain dead, zombified freeper types
who think FUX really is a "fair and balanced" news channel just because it says it is. Maybe the cognitive dissonance of finding out that their favorite "fair and balanced" news channel had to go to court to defend a newscaster's right to lie to its audience might cause their heads to explode. We can only hope.

16. I sent them the nastiest email and then I ...
cancelled my cable.

I have decided to take my energy and money away from the mainstream media corps and work on more focus issued. To that end I encourage each of you to send a letter to the 9/11 commission and/or your state reps regarding the latest conditions placed on the 911 commission. In their most recent Action Alert they want the commission to address 9 issues.

Please take the time to support the ongoing work of the 9/11 Family Steering Committee actions by emailing the commission and other influential beings.

We must continue to put "unprecedented" pressure on this group so that the truth may be unveiled. Just go to:

http://www.911independentcommission.org/index.html
Did you know that Ms. Rices's private testimony was not recorded?

<snip>
Fifth, we request that going forward the Commission record and transcribe all private and public testimony, from whatever source – even the President and Vice President, in order to accurately preserve these historical testimonies. It has been reported that the Commission failed to record National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice's private testimony on February 7, 2004. The failure of the 9/11 Commission to record Dr. Rice's testimony further calls into question this Commission's methods in conducting its investigation

I haven't had time to look into it yet, the only reason I'm even familiar is that Franken mentioned it on his show.

Apparently, that "something weird" was intimating that he's gay.

Why that's "something weird," is anyone's guess.

23. where did he get that "talking point?"
from the WH, the RNC, the Heritage Foundation?
If he was repeating from somewhere else: WHERE? And where did they get their talking point? Did they FACT-CHECK a rumor, and if true, what does this have to do with Clarke's credibility?

IMHO, he isn't gay because thirty years ago(even 12-15 years ago), people thought gays would be able to be blackmailed, so they were security risks. He would have never gotten top security clearances.

Here you have a major and (used-to-be) well respected news organization who just flat ass lied to try and improve a failing President and his image.

Its not so much as to whether the kid was bored out of his mind and falling asleep its about media kowtowing to one party with lies. They didn't do any investigation of their own, just issued a quick statement that this all had to be phony. After all NO ONE would dare yawn, shift their feet and look at their watch behind our Fuhrer when he's making an important speech.

My God,they lied and then tried to cover their ass about this minor thing what about the major news stories????
