Are you programmed to discuss the media?
I can't but help noticing that GD is ENTIRELY full of media-reaction
threads. Its as if DU is reduced to discussing the media adgenda and
not setting our own. Whilst i respect that we need to address media
issues, does this not strike you as ironic?

Here we are, a community of liberal-minded folk, who eschew media
monopolies and such, yet like baby piglets, we're on the teet
reacting away to the republican adgenda to absorb their militarism
in to our minds and run with it.

Shouldn't these threads be in the media forum? Have we nothing to
say to each other without television? Does this not srike you
as odd?

1. Everybody's just excited

3. People are talking about world and national events
Which we all, for better or for worse, learn about through media. My observation here (although I'm hardly an old-timer) is that the people are critiquing the media as they are taking in the information. And really, this is only way to be a thinking person in the conglomerated-mediated world. This is the biggest issue for those people who vote Republican against their own best interest -- it is a case of media illiteracy.

And BushCo just loves it that way.

But this is media too, and it is the anti-conglomerate. Power to the people!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

(sorry, I got a little excited)

4. just the tail only wags the dog
if the dogs feet are off the ground. We are being manipulated
by the media, and their soundbite adgenda quite intensely.

Read the front page of threads, and notice how many are programmed
by the media, that our "front page" column inches are as dominated
by right wing adgendas as the newspapers themselves.

We may very well be refuting all these stories, but even that is in
itself being programmed. This surely flows in tides on DU, but
this is really extreme... i counted a few minutes back, and every
single thread was a media thread. Wow... i could just rename
the forum "media" and create a new GD for open discussion without
the television/radio respondents.
