Dragged bodies, dismembered bodies, hanged mutilated corpses!
Hearts and Minds, Hearts and Minds!

<snip>
Footage from Associated Press Television News showed a charred body of one of the slain men, and the targeted vehicles in flames nearby. Some of the slain men were wearing flak jackets, said Safa Mohammedi, a resident.

APTN footage showed one American passport near a body.

Another resident, Abdul Aziz Mohammed, said angry crowds dragged the bodies through the streets, dismembered them and hanged some of the mutilated corpses. One man beat a corpse with a metal pole. Residents tied a cord to another body, tied it to a car and drove it down a street.

64. Fallujah, April 28, 2003
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 12:31 PM by anarchy1999
Last year I knew Fallujah was never going to be anything but a disaster for us all. This town made it through the initial "war" without anything happening. Then right after the "occupation" our occupying troops rolled into town. The townspeople came out onto the streets in protest and look what happened next.

The Killings At Fallujah

On Monday, April 28, the U.S. media focused on Donald Rumsfeld's trip to Baghdad, while a shocking event played out in a town just 30 miles to the west, where U.S. troops opened fire on Iraqi civilians, killing 15 people and wounding dozens of demonstrators protesting the U.S. occupation of their town.

Wire service reports are usually a good place to start. Reuters correspondent Edmund Blair filed the first report directly from the town of Fallujah. U.S. troops camped at a school in the town shot dead 13 protesters after firing live bullets into a crowd of unarmed demonstrators. His short article, "U.S. Troops Kill at Least 13 Iraqis--Witnesses," relies heavily on direct quotes from Iraqi witnesses, including a local Sunni cleric, who told Blair that the demonstrators had gone to the school to demand that U.S. troops leave the building so that the school could reopen. The cleric stressed that it was a peaceful demonstration and that none of the demonstrators were carrying weapons. The article ends with a single paragraph: "U.S. military officials did not immediately comment. But Qatar-based al-Jazeera satellite television quotes American troops as saying they had come under fire after asking the crowd to disperse and were then forced to retaliate."

Next came an Associated Press article by Ellen Knickmeyer, "U.S. Forces Return Fire at Iraq Protest," which, as its title suggests, took pains to present the viewpoint of U.S. troops to the near total exclusion of any Iraqi eyewitness testimony.

US Troops Fire on Iraq Protesters Again, Two Killed

US troops opened fire on anti-American demonstrators for the second time this week as Iraqis marched Wednesday to protest the previous shooting. The city's mayor said two people were killed and 14 wounded in the clash.

Killings in Al Fallujah, City of Mosques
Has America Taken on a New Military Culture with New Rules that Allow Us to Kill Civilians at Will?
By SAM HAMOD

Al Fallujah is known in Iraq as the "city of mosques." There is a reverence for the holiness of the city and Muslim leaders made clear to American troops that they did not want them in their city. The US troops responded by saying they had to be there for "security." The Muslim leaders, led by Sunni Imam Jamal Mahmood, said they had their own security. The US troops were determined to stay. They say, Saddam had weapons factories there. The Iraqis say the "factories" have been destroyed and there is no need for the US troops to stay. This is a situation that the Americans cannot say is being fomented by the Shi'a or Iran because Al Fallujah has always been a Sunni stronghold.

What happened next has raised questions among Iraqis and many international Middle East experts. Crowds gathered and demanded the troops leave. As the crowds became louder and more insistent, the American troops fired into the crowd and killed 13 people and injured more than 20 more according to doctors at the local hospital. The American troops said they were fired on; but all other witnesses at the scene denied the gunfire came from the demonstrators. Today, 2 more people were killed and more injured, with the Muslims of Al Fallujah and the city officials saying no one shot at the Americans, the American troops claiming otherwise.

The more blood and guts the more the War party is for it.I find it down right scary, what they are doing in Iraq and how the right wing seem to feed off it. We seem to be back to this 'The only good Indian is a dead one' Use what ever name in place of Indian that the War party does not like today. Please do not let it be Northern Dem.

47. I have been there
and trust me, you do not want to live there. Historically speaking, If you look at post WWII, we set up bases in the countries we fought against and we are still there 60 years later. It wasn't until after the gulf war when we started standing down Units in Germany. I would be totally surprised if we make the (currently stated I think July?) deadline of removing troops out of Iraq especially since some of the locals are fanatics that want to rid the world of infidels.

51. Silly me.
I thought our bases in Germany were to contain the USSR by having forward bases with U.S. troops. I didn't realize we were occupying Germany to keep them in line and to insure their security.

What was I thinking? Thanks for clarifying that we have only just pacified Germany and now can leave and let them govern themselves again.

I feel so ignorant.

58. Attack at will if you must
We stayed there to get the country going again AFTER WWII. You are correct with the statement of forward bases for USSR that was another reason for staying there. We were there to provide security for West Germany against the Communist East Germany. So before the wall went down in 89-90, yes we were there to keep the East German's military in-line. Blah, Blah, Blah. Wall fell, I got to come home and say good bye to my favorite German bakery and my Favorite Local brewery.

I don't see why you would see this as a personal statement directed at you. If you disagree then please just simply state you disagree with out all the sarcasm. But I am well aware of the drill.

1. Poster makes a ostensible statement.
2. old timer attacks new guy.
3. New guy defends with colorful language.
4. old timer alerts mods and gets new guy tomb stoned.

Peace to you my friend. You don't have to feel ignorant. I have faith that you are at above average intelligence.

60. I thought you were comparing the occupation of Iraq
with the liberation of Germany. I don't see the parallels and thought maybe you would enlighten me on that.

We aren't in Iraq to protect it from other countries.
We are in Iraq to steal their oil.

We did NOT stay in Germany for 60 years to oppress them. We stayed long enough to get them on their feet.

The talking point spewed out by the RW that it will take 60 years to stabilize Iraq, like it took 60 years to stabilize Germany is justification for atrocity and theft and is not a rational argument.

That was my point.

46. Perhaps. I doubt that the pickers and pokers and draggers did it
out of moral outrage. It is the apalling grossness and vomit-inducing gore of what they were doing, standing there lookiing and poking and prodding and...I mean, wouldn't you throw up or something?

There are base deviates everywhere, however, absolutely.

So does this excuse any of the maming and killing accomplished by U.S. bombs and missiles and bullets? No! But running, exposed colons spilling out of charred husks that were once human bodies might be expected to induce horror and nausea in a normal, empathetic person.

Some of the "outraged" folks instead dragged the bodies behind cars and made them the center of a party...disgusting, no matter who is doing it.

That's really all I'm saying.

show the bodies of the American soldiers being unloaded at Dover, and the funerals, and the KILLINGS in Iraq...show it all....
