MR. FLEISCHER: I've got no comment on Mr. Jackson's possible -- the Reverend Jackson's possible travel. I would just reiterate what the President has said, the he will not engage in any negotiations or discussions.

Notice that the comment about the Sikhs is near the beginning of the press conference, while the "watch what you say" line is near the very end. Yet he lamely tries to connect the two.

Go read the whole Fleischer letter... he does quote the exchange and admit his "watch what you say" comments were in response to the question about Bill Maher. But he tries to say his comments were aimed at those who are intolerant of American Sikhs and Muslims.

He's spinning here but he doesn't actually deny the facts of what he said.

I'll gladly concede that Ari technically spoke truthfully in his NYT letter. Most of the time, Bush and his minions also technically speak truthfully, while fully consciously intending to spin and mislead. The propaganda is more effective that way.

Since we agree that Ari is spinning, I'll just leave it at that.
