Can we get Imus to not support Kerry?
I feel dirty having him on opur side. I would feel cleaner if he would endorse Bush.

Honest question.

3. That's silly.
Once more: there are 3 groups, those who will always support you; those who never will; and the undecided. If you look at the 2000 election, you will see the first two groups are almost equally divided. Hence, the third group will decide the election. Imus is able to reach a significant section of the third group. He is interviewing Rep. Harold Ford as I write this. Imus "lobs" easy questions that mimic the right-wing, and allows powerful guests such as Ford to slam home the answer. D.U.ers need to have more open minds in order to have a better idea of how elections are won and lost. The third group isn't going to read our posts on here; many are listening to Ford on Imus right now.

6. Very silly, indeed.
Yesterday Jonathan Alter of Newsweek, who called Condi Rice "pathetic" on the show, refered to Imus as playing the "devil's advocate." If you look objectively at what he did -- saying Rush has 20 million listeners compared to his 10 million -- then paraphrased Rush's attacks on Kerry .... which allows Ford the opportunity to counter Rush's attack. Now, think of how this plays to an audience of "undecided" voters! NOT to you, not to your friends. But to the 10 million people who tend to get a lot of the information that forms the foundation of their views and opinions. This election is about being flexible enough to win. Rigidity of thought is not a strength in 2004.

Questioning Kerry's truthfulness doesn't help Kerry with independents. I don't care what kind of Rosy glasses you are looking through. I am dealing in reality. You don't hear Stern questionong Kerry's truthfulness.

9. Sure you are.
You are dealing in your reality. That's good. But you are not dealing in the reality of the 10 million people who listen to Imus and use his program as a primary source of information to build the foundation of their opinions and world-view. Now, let's say that the language of your reality is French, and they speak a Latin tongue. How are you going to communicate with them? You can't! You must speak the language they understand. If Imus starts speaking d.u.-French, his listeners will turn him off fast. Believe me, I am not questioning your sincerely felt beliefs. More, understand that I am not wearing any rose-colored glasses. I've probably worked more campaigns and elections than 99.999% of the people on here. What Imus is doing is an old tactic. And it works.

8. I tend to agree with you
while I think Imus is a grumpy old fool and I cringe at some of the things he says about Kerry, I'd rather he bring up these silly allegations to Kerry supporters and have them answer them than just let the allegations float around and no one really answering them in a public way.

Even before Imus started supporting Kerry, he was calling Bush stupid and talking about Bush's "mess in Iraq" all the time.

10. Bernard and Charles are the right wing nuts on Imus and
they are the ones who supply Imus with all the questions. They type them on his screen. He has to ask their anti Kerry questions to keep peace with them. Bernie is very anti Iraq war but that is not out of humanitarian concerns. He doesn't think THOSE people over there are worth one dollar or one life. He is very bigoted.

Mrs. Imus works with Theresa Heinz Kerry on environmental issues and someone told me she is campaigning for Kerry. I think Imus and his wife will vote for Kerry. Sometimes he can't contain himself and really whales on Bush, but in the end he will do anything for a laugh.

11. I knew Bernard was a nut
er, right-wing nut. I don't watch often enough or at least pay enough attention to realize Charles is too. Bernard -- somedays I wish Imus would wring his neck when he is in one of his moods.

12. Charles is a born again whatever and went to school with Ashcroft.
He isn't as obvious about his right wing bias, probably because he thinks, being a news reader, he shouldn't be, but he writes most of the stuff for the show and the nastier the better. You will notice that sometimes when Imus says something good about Kerry or bad about Bush he will say, " I know you don't agree, Bernie and Charles".
