Gas Pump Prices Hit All-Time High-AAA

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. average retail gasoline prices hit an all-time high on Tuesday as a tight-fisted OPEC policy and rising demand constricted supplies, according to the American Automobile Association.
The average price for regular gasoline at the nation's pumps was $1.738 per gallon, up less than a cent from the previous record hit last September, according to the motorist group's survey of more than 60,000 stations.

Energy prices have been on the rise in recent months, with U.S. stockpiles near their lowest levels since the 1970s while an economic recovery spurs higher demand.

I find myself celebrating this fact, only for the reason that it may effect the election outcome.

Besides, my fellow Americans.. we've had it quite good. Europe pays much, much more for gas.. so suck it up!

5. Geeze, now we find out that the pentagon has been buying...

...crude at current market prices to bring the reserves up to 100%. They have 55 million barrels to go at $37.75 per barrel to get the reserve up to 100% and plan to do this during the next 30 to 45 days. Hey, that almost guarantees that gas pump prices will go through the roof, because they are buying no matter what OPEC charges. :wtf:

If the recent sticker shock at the gasoline pump feels familiar, that's because it is the same old story that led California's electricity market to become the embarrassment of the nation.

Earlier this month, California Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer convened a panel in Los Angeles of industry experts who have blamed the run-up on OPEC crude oil prices, environmentally sensitive fuel and free-market pressures. But the problem is as simple as California's electricity crisis turned out to be: A few giant energy corporations have manipulated supply to keep profits high.

Similarly, California's special gasoline formulation -- as required by the federal government under Clean Air Act rules -- has been made to appear rare by the small number of refiners who make the special mix and have gradually closed refining plants.
