I don't even know what the inititals stand for, but, at our school there are about six kids with severe disabilities. some can't even speak, but they're in school with the rest of the 700 others, occasionally mainstreamed

part of the new policy, which forces some of them to take the standardized NCLB tests on the same basis as everyone else, including kids who don't speak English.

Our school, as a result of having lots of bilingual, low-achieving IEPers (Individualized Educational Program), is on the govt watchlist, meaning if we don't improve this time, we're going to be TAKEN OVER by the state!

I work in a well-funded district in Chicago suburbs, but we have LOTS of diversity (26 languages spoken, including one, I swear--cause I saw the bilingual list--that's UNIDENTIFIED!), which means lots of kids whose needs aren't being met. this means that they have to have the tests READ to them. you can imagine what that means in how they answer, especially in the Language Arts sections, where they have to write short essays
