60 Minutes: Shrub "ignored terrorism", Iraq "no connection" to 9-11
Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 10:47 AM by UTUSN
On Edit: It was a pleasure to DELETE THE DRUDGE link and replace it with the CBS link. Btw, SLUDGE's story was a direct copy, uncredited, of the CBS item. Isn't that plagiarism or something? Oh, I forgot, plagiarism is a very minor failing among wingnuts.

.... Clarke was surprised that the attention of administration officials was turning toward Iraq when he expected the focus to be on al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.

"They were talking about Iraq on 9/11. They were talking about it on 9/12," says Clarke. ....

"Rumsfeld was saying we needed to bomb Iraq....We all said, 'but no, no. Al Qaeda is in Afghanistan," recounts Clarke, "and Rumsfeld said, 'There aren't any good targets in Afghanistan and there are lots of good targets in Iraq.' I said, 'Well, there are lots of good targets in lots of places, but Iraq had nothing to do with .'" ....

“Frankly, I find it outrageous that the president is running for re-election on the grounds that he’s done such great things about terrorism,” says Clarke in Sunday's interview. “He ignored it. He ignored terrorism for months, when maybe we could have done something to stop 9/11. Maybe. We’ll never know." ....

1. CBS has been doing pretty good
for mainstream media. They've talked about most topics in one form or another that we discuss here at DU.

Can't wait to see 60 minutes tomorrow night! Give 'em Hell, Wes!

14. Wes did make precisely the same claims...
... when he first announced for President. His friends at the Pentagon told him that the joke in the days immediately following 9/11 was that it didn't matter if Saddam was responsible; he was going to pay for it regardless.

Republicans, and much of the so-called liberal media, portrayed him as a nutcase for making such claims.

Clark and Clarke... proof positive that the Adminstration is crooked, weak, immoral and unethical.

7. Maybe we could have done something...but we'll never know...
well we certainly won't know if it's not investigated! Why can't we know. The documentation is there.

Bush was planning an invasion of Iraq AND Afghanistan long before 9-11. The documentation is there. Look at it!!!

8. No that's not true.
Our Chriss-chun President is a kind man who liberated Iraq because he felt morally obliged to protect us.

And what does CBS think it's doing? Does it think we're living in a democracy?!

10. Why would "they" want to go into Iraq on 9/11?

  1. Because they wanted the Iraqi oil?
  2. Because the binLaden family was friends of the Bush family?
  3. Because Wolfowitz and the neocons are morons?
  4. Because the secret plan that PNAC "Rebuilding America's Defenses" is based on called for invading Iraq?
  5. All of the above.

Answer: E

20. Oh, my LORD! Did you see this quote -
He said he wrote to National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) on Jan. 24, 2001, asking "urgently" for a Cabinet-level meeting "to deal with the impending al-Qaida attack."

OH MY GOD. "...to deal with THE impending al-Qaida attack." Not "AN impending al-Qaida attack." "THE impending al-Qaida attack."

JEEZ.

ooops there it is
it's all so ugly isn't -- from the theft of the election to talking about pnac every damn day, the lack of justification for ripping a country to shreds -- and you see this guy on television verifying what the courageous folks here have known all along.
i'm thrilled to see it out there and jaded enough not to expect the american public to care.

from Mr. Clarke. He's not mincing words at all. Looks like 60 Minutes will be worth watching this evening.
