What the eff is going on south of the border?
Yesterday the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruled that they would no longer tolerate the use of the F-word (you know the one we mean) on over-the-air radio and television. To prove that they’re serious, the FCC have decided to make examples out of a couple of offenders.
While Bono has been officially labeled a no-good potty-mouth by the FCC, the organization won’t fine him, since he didn’t technically violate the rules at the time of his speech. FCC chairman Michael Powell did, however, issue a statement saying that Bono has been put "on notice," warning him that if he slips again, he could be fined extensively.
While the new rules will restrict what people can say on U.S. network TV, you’ll still be able to hear cable stars like Tony Soprano and Six Feet Under’s Brenda Chenowith swear to their little hearts’ content. Of course, the rules don’t apply to Canadian broadcast TV. For example, when Toronto’s CityTV aired American Pie 2 last week, Stifler was pretty much uncensored (save for any references to a woman’s bikini area or slipping through the back door, which were bleeped). God bless Canada.
