in which is revealed the surprising news (Shocked! Shocked, I tell you!) that bucks have been flowing from the US to the Venezuelan opposition.

But really. It's just like, ummm, sending money to your foreign pen pal, right? Yeah, that's the ticket.

But of course, we mustn't worry our pretty little heads about American money working to destabilize foreign governments, must we?

I mean, we wouldn't have any problem with Chavez sending a million or two to MoveOn.org, would we?

1. Some people defend this but won't spend to address real human need

It's part of the anti-left campaign, making sure that people consider wealth to be justly earned and a god-given right exceeding all others in its value.

But there are those who delude themselves into thinking it's all about the 'nobility' of sharing and spreading 'American values' (like Thomas Friedman, say)..Somewhere in the middle of those conversations, the contrast between a willingness to spend government money to stop 'dangerous ideas' or 'evil regimes', and a total antipathy towards spending money to alleviate famine or universal health care etc. keeps nagging at me.
