Hmmm, neither Spain or the US wants the bombings to be al-qaeda.
They are still trying to make sure everyone is thinking along the lines of Basque terrorists. ETA has said they were not responsible; al-qaeda says they are responsible and now we say we don't believe either of them. We (the coalition) are between a rock and a hard place. To admit that al-qaeda is responsible means the war on terror is not working and it is sapping the US of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and there ain't much we can do about it. In hindsight I believe that most will begin to see that the invasion of Iraq was the worst possible action to take under such deceit that flowed from the west. Iraq, along with Palestine, is now the clarion call of the extremist Muslims...and for generations this will continue. If the US can hold onto the ALAMO as a noble venture, what makes us think that others have no right to do the same with respect to Palestine and Iraq?

1. I'm guessing the UK and Italy and Australia don't want it to be Al Qaeda
either.

Did anyone else hear *Bush call ETA "The E.T.A.?"

2. Spinsanity
The rumored al-Qaeda splinter group who called in responsibility for the attack also claimed responsibility for the East Coast blackout some time ago. I think everyone should withold judgment until more facts are in.

The problem with a tragedy such as this is that everyone will try and spin it for their own political objectives.

6. ETA still denies responsibility
ETA is still denying responsibility which is strange if they in fact did do it and now are recanting. I have been reading the Spanish newspapers and it seems that there are more indications of Islamic extremists being involved in some ways, whether they be Al-Qaeda or not who knows. And yes, that one Al-Qaeda splinter group is full of hot-air. I wouldn't believe anything they say.

I did read though that the detonators that were found are the typical detonators known to be used by ETA.

7. The ETA tried to bomb trains on Christmas Eve
It also was caught recently with explosives that were going to be used for an unprecedented attack.

9. Some Spaniards speculated the govt would admit AlQaeda...
was responsible for the bombings after the election. Interviewed on Brit tv during the march tonight, they said then it would be too late to connect the attacks to Spanish participation in Iraq.
