John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and John Forbes Kerry. Both Democrats. Both Catholic. Both Massachusetts liberals. Both war heroes.
Both seen as serious threats to the republican hoardes. Both seen as radical troublemakers by the right.
I remember when Kennedy was elected. My dad, a protestant, was worried as hell that a Catholic was president. Up until Kennedy, we'd never had a Catholic in the White House, and anti-Catholisism was rampant. Kennedy had to make a public statement assuring American voters that his religious persuasion would have no sway over his political decisions.
it has long been 'rumored' that g.w.h. bush was involved in the Kennedy murder(s). and now we have a JFK running against bush's own son. the mind reels.
