7. My Senator, Dave Hansen....
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 03:36 PM by JonathanChance
Is probably gonna go to the dark side :grr:. He only won in 2000 because his predecessor wouldn't take sides on the Lambeau Field renovation issue. Hansen's also broken ranks on a number of key votes, such as the Property Tax Freeze and Concealed Weapons overrides. I think at this point, he's more concerned about getting re-elected in our conservative-leaning district than standing up for human rights. If he's re-elected, I think he can be persuaded to do the right thing when it comes up for it's second vote next year. I emailed his office Because we're on very friendly terms, I think he'll read my message.

2. Update on roll call....
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 03:04 PM by JonathanChance
Leibham's http://www.legis.state.wi.us/senate/sen09/news/col2004-011.htm">all for the amendment.

Judging from Reynolds' "please send me Traditonal Values updates" on his crappy website, he's probably for the amendment, as well.

Judging from http://www.legis.state.wi.us/senate/sen26/news/pr2004-002.htm">this article Risser's most likely gonna be on our side.

3. What's the deal with this?
I thought WI was a progressive state. Now they're outlawing civil unions too?

5. They want our constitution to be MORE restrictive on LGB rights...
...than Alabama's.

No offense to Alabaman DUers, but come on -- I'm sure you expect AL to be more hostile to the LGBT community than WI.

Fer Chrissakes, sexual orientation is a protected designation under the law here -- employers cannot discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, but the state legislature can?

This proposed amendment is sick, even for the likes of Kanavas and his gaybashing buddies. I am NOT happy to be a Wisconsinite right now.

6. Unfortunately..
The 2002 Midterms gave Wisconsin Liberals a bittersweet win. We finally got the Governor's mansion away from the Tommy Thompson regime for the first time in 14 years with Jim Doyle, but the Republicans swarmed into State Senate and State Assembly seats. They control the entire legislature.

This is not the first time they have worked to pass Gay Marriage legislation in the past year and they keep coming back to try to hit Doyle with idealogical stuff so they can get him on wedge issues and bounce him out of office in 2006.

Some of their main votes have been on Gay Rights, Concealed Carry laws, etc. They haven't really even touched any of the State's more serious issues because they're too busy playing partisan politics.

8. Not to mention my assembly rep..
John Gard (R-Sun Prarie... I mean Peshtigo) Is now speaker

But he's gonna be vulnerable this year.

1. The State party's gonna kick a lot of bing bling our way if we can field a good candidate

2. We actually have a good candidate shaping up in Bruce Bermann, a member of the Marinette County Board and we're trying to talk our usual nominee Al Hager, (who's a really nice guy, but doesn't have the right stuff to beat Gard) out of running because come primary time, the repugs are gonna cross over and see to it that Hager becomes the nominee.

9. I just hope we can at least take back the Senate this year....
Kanavas needs to go, along with Mary Panzerkampfwagen.
